About this apartment rental
The village location and so close to the beach means that it is the perfect dog friendly Norfolk holiday cottage! Miles of walks from the door and all you need in the village itself, means you can leave the car alone for a week. If you want to explore you have miles of beaches and other interesting villages up and down the coast.

Kitchen/diner: A very well equipped kitchen with electric oven and hob, fridge freezer and plenty of cupboard storage space and worktops. Kettle and toaster and microwave. Wooden flooring throughout and plenty of room for the dogs. The dining table easily seats 6 and the 2 areas are separated by a feature brick wall. The sideboard has plenty of information on the area, games and a special information and fundraising section for the local seal colony. There is an adjoining utility room with dishwasher and washing machine and plenty of cupboard space for dog food. All the bowls and more are kept here for the dogs. Just off this is the …
Shower room: Walk in panelled shower, toilet and sink with cupboard storage, heated towel rail and window opening onto the dunes.
Living room: This is at the front of the house, beyond the dining area and stairs and both can be separated off by wooden stable type doors. The room is bright and very nicely decorated. There are 2 sofas, offering plenty of seating for 4, a large coffee table, plenty of books and a 43″ Hisense Smart TV with Freeview / Netflix. Winter evenings can be made cosy with the wood burning stove.
Conservatory: Just beyond the living room is the little conservatory, a perfect place to sit on a sunny day if it’s a bit too windy or cool to sit outside. Two lovely armchairs, table and lamps.
Back through the living room to the stairs which are a little steep, fitting with the age and style of the cottage, but carpeted and with hand rails both sides. There is the option to slot in one of the 2 supplied Dog G8s at the top or bottom of the stairs.
Front bedroom: King size bed in a roomy bedroom with a vanity unit – sink and plenty of storage. Wardrobe, bedside tables and lamps and views over the garden. Curtains have black out thermal linings. Windows have restricted openings but can be opened fully by pressing two buttons.
Rear bedroom: Double bed with hanging space and side tables. This is a smaller bedroom but this is made up for by the lovely views across the dunes and big skies. As with the front bedroom the curtains have black out linings and the window has a restricted opening setting that can easily be over-ridden.
ALL ABOUT THE OUTSIDE:
Courtyard: The front garden is a lovely long courtyard style area with plenty of room for the 2 sets of seating – one a picnic style round bench near the conservatory and the other is armchair seating under a waterproof sun-shade sail. The surface is stone slabs with plenty of plants. The fencing is solid wood all round and 6ft high.
Parking is inside the garage and there is space for one car across the garage entrance. Further parking if needed can be advised on booking.
Outside tap is located on the dune side of the house (ie at the back) and has one short lead to hose sandy paws and feet and a further long hose which is fed to the front garden. There is a small bistro style seating set here too.

This is my 3rd visit to Jacks Shack-which I think says it all!!
I love everything about Jacks Shack and always feel that myself and canine pals, are made very welcome. With provision of dog beds, bowls, towels, blankets AND treats in the welcome pack, it makes life very easy when packing to come away. Caroline has thought of (I think) everything and it is definitely 5 star - I love that she is very eco friendly as well! I think Winterton-on-Sea is a special place with the right amount of ‘amenities’.
I will definitely be booking to go again - for a fourth time

Jack’s Shack is in the perfect location in the beautiful village of Winterton. A short stroll out the back door, across the dunes, and you are at the beach. Metres and metres of luscious clean sand with barely another person to share it with. Dog friendly all year round with walks to Horsey Gap for seal watching in one direction and Hemsby for more traditional seaside pursuits in the other. If the beach gets dull (could that ever happen!) there is easy access to the Norfolk Coast path for the return journey. Winterton has a pub, a tea room, a fish and chip shop with the best ever fish and chips, and a convenience store. Then there’s Seal View cafe at the beach with coffee, cakes, lunches galore, plus a cosy cabin for windy, rainy days, and sausage for the dogs (mine is now suffering from sausage withdrawal symptoms).
I have never seen a better Welcome basket than that provided by Caroline at Jack’s Shack. Including a toy octopus and a ball plus treats for the whippet. How kind. Plus lots of lovely goodies for the adult in the room - the fizzy fish were a winner. Caroline has thought of everything at this lovely, cosy, comfy cottage. The bedrooms are so comfortable (I chose the double at the back of the house with views over the dunes; the large king size room looks out over the pretty tropical style garden). There is plenty of storage space for us over-packers. Eco-friendly toiletries, washing liquid, dishwasher tablets, loo paper abound. Copious towels and beach towels, plus mats, towels and blankets for the pup. Everywhere was spotlessly clean (the housekeeping team is amazing - I would like to bring them home with me). It was so much fun to cook knowing that I had everything I needed to hand.
The garden is an oasis. Loungers in the sun, and a shady, sail-covered hideaway for when the heat got too much. Beautiful plants, and gravel, paved, making keeping the space clean easy. There is a warm conservatory for days when the weather isn’t as lovely.
The stairs are typical cottage stairs, straight up the middle of the house, with bannisters on either side. Caroline has thoughtfully fitted movement activated lighting for those night time trips to the downstairs bathroom. Caroline also thoughtfully provided directions as the cottage could be difficult to find using sat nav (a very short drive down an unmade road is required and I would have started doubting myself!). My car also got to enjoy being in a garage for a week, a rare treat, and only one excursion to Cromer.
Jack’s Shack is a chilled, pretty place. I’ve returned home feeling so refreshed. And wanting to come back very soon. It is impossible to cover all the lovely surprises awaiting the visitor. You will have to see for yourself (but not too many of you - please leave space for the rest of us).

Jack's Shack is so well equipped for dog & human visitors. I have stayed in some lovely holiday lets and Jack's Shack is by far the very best.
The furnishings & fittings are very high standard and it is so homely. The welcome basket was lovely & very much appreciated. Loved the whole 'ocean friendly' vibe for washing up, shampoo etc.
The garden is lovely too with areas to catch the sun or enjoy shade.
It is only a short walk to the beach bar, beach, local pub, shop, tea room & even a 'chippy'.
We will be back.
