It's an oldfashioned place to stay, style 50s and 60s. Access to the city centre, where the apartment is absolutely central to is brilliant. Parking for the car is on location.

The Darmon house is a former winery, 200-300 years old...staying there is a true experience. Chris picked us up at the train station, and brought us back, a rare courtesy, and he checked with us regularly (he lives in the attached main house) to be sure we had everything we needed! The house has been updated without affecting its authenticity. Kitchen very well equipped for cooking. Within walking distance of everything in charming Auxerre.

The position of the property in the town is excellent, and though it is small, was adequate. I usually go for Homeaway properties with 2 bedrooms/4 beds so that when we need to have a bedroom each that is possible. This property lists a double bed and 2 single beds, but neglects to say that the 2 single beds are bunk beds, which are nothing like so comfortable. The facilities listed for this property includes 'parking', which I took to mean parking either in the drive featured in the photos,or very close by. The first night there we were shown to a square about 5 minutes away where there was parking you pay for. The next day we were shown a place to park for free about 15 minutes walk away, which really was not very convenient. Information about Wi fi took a couple of days to be supplied. Some information about the town, a map at least, would have been appreciated.

Although this property is situated in the town centre of Auxerre and is convenient to explore its mediaeval buildings on foot, it has a quiet, calm ambience. It is also in a good position for driving to the beautiful surrounding countryside. The house is clean and well maintained and the owner is very welcoming and helpful, providing lots of tourist information. There is also a supply of books and games in case of inclement weather.

We spent five days in this comfortable house, which allowed us to see picturesque and architecturally rich Auxerre at a leisure pace, and then take the train to Sens (the first Gothic cathedral) and Vezelay (starting point for the pilgrimage to San Juan de Compostela). The house had ground-level entry off a lovely interior garden, an efficient and well appointed kitchen and dining area and a comfortable living room (with a global range of channels + Netflix) downstairs, and two large bedrooms upstairs, one of them with two bunks for children. The house is five minutes from the municipal bus lines, one to the SNCF station for excursions and another free one for the centre ville town (useful for navigating the complex streets and finding places). M Darmon helped us enormously on May Day by taking us to the train station, since the buses were not running.

I stayed at this rental for a week while doing research at the departmental archives in Auxerre. The location is very convenient, just minutes away from the town center. It is close to a great boulangerie, charcuterie, a Monoprix, restaurants, and sights. Auxerre is a charming town full of half-timbered houses an narrow meandering streets. The owner is generous, friendly, helpful, and a superb host. The rental is clean, comfortable, and roomy for one person or a couple. The kitchen and bathroom are modern and well equipped. I enjoyed my stay immensely and found the price a good bargain.
