Périgord: gite with secure swimming pool in the heart of Dordogne bastides

Very well appointed Gite - Situated in the countryside in absolute peace and quiet - perfect for getting away from it all. Pool was fantastic too. We had a great 2 weeks and wouldn’t hesitate to choose this place again - Thoroughly recommend it!

Weekend

We’ve spent a wonderfully relaxing week in a perfect little corner of rural France. House was very clean and had everything we needed. Excellent pool with views across the fields and lots of quiet lanes to explore by bike.

This is the perfect place for peace and quiet. Its at the end of a single track road and surrounded by fields. The weather was warm so we were able to sit and eat outside on the terrace. We had a barbecue and even swam in the pool although it is no longer heated at this time of year (Oct/Nov). In the evenings we sat by the log fire - just for the pleasure of it, as the gite was so well heated we didn't need a fire! The eighteenth century cottage has been stylishly renovated and very well equipped. We loved the underfloor heating, the big oak table, the cosy sitting area and the modern kitchen , including an induction cooker, oven, microwave, dish washer, kettle, toaster and coffee maker. The attic bedrooms are cosy (not much head room) and there is extra living and/or sleeping space on the mezzanine. There is an upstairs toilet in addition to the bathroom and spacious shower room downstairs. The larger downstairs bedroom also has its own shower. All the fittings are modern and very clean. The nearest towns are Villereal and Issigeac, both charming little medieval towns with lively weekly markets, shops, cafes and restaurants. There are many other interesting places nearby. We particularly enjoyed Monpazier, Monflanquin, Castillones, Monsegur, Eymet and Duras castle. There is local information in the gite, including some nearby walks. We had some pleasant walks just following tracks from the house. Joelle was a charming and helpful hostess. She was born in the cottage and she and her husband have spent the last 8 years renovating it to very high standard. We were delighted to be able to stay there and thought it was excellent value for money. It's also very easy to get to if you fly to Bergerac airport, which is less than 30km away. We hope to be going back there next year.
