Al Mare is ideal and comfortable for small families or two couples, girl's weekend away or men's golf trips. This home has two suites; one with a king bed, en-suite bathroom with oversized shower; The second bedroom has two full beds and full bath. Comfortable living room with a sleeper sofa, dining room and kitchen all flow to an upper deck overlooking the ocean. Great porches - front and back give you wonderful outdoor living space.
The open floor plan in the Kitchen/Dining/Living allows everyone to socialize in the fully stocked kitchen with open access to the deck overlooking the ocean. Sunset views in the evening are amazing. Al Mare is in the desirable Flora's Bluff - a prime location on Bald Head Island. steps to a beach access for the cottages. Very close to everything - the BHI club, restaurants, shops and the marina Head Island Club. The home is also well situated with a large open area in front for the children to play at the end of the cul-de-sac and a small, fenced yard for pets and to enjoy a gathering around the BBQ.
A very short cart ride gets you to the new BHI Club Aquatic Center which features 4 new tennis courts, a playground, short-grass recreational area, workout facility, multiple swimming pools and water slide, croquet course, casual and fine dining and, of course, the George Cobb designed, award winning 18-hole golf course.
Bald Head Island is only accessible by boat or by a ferry, which departs frequently out of Southport, NC. Southport is 40 minutes from the Wilmington, NC (ILM) airport. A tram ride to the villa is included with your ferry ticket. Reservations are required. Visitors and residents travel around the island by golf cart, bike or by foot.
This house comes with a 4-seat golf cart, 2 adult beach bikes, 4 new beach chairs, boogie boards and an abundance of beach toys, and an umbrella. Please bring your own helmets. Additional bikes can also be rented at Riverside Adventure. Please note that while we guarantee the availability and condition of the golf carts, we cannot guarantee the condition of the bikes.
Climb to the top of “Old Baldy,” which is the oldest lighthouse on the East coast. It was built in 1817 and originally commissioned by Thomas Jefferson. Hike and wind your way around live oaks hundreds of years old and through the nature paths that Revolutionary and Civil War soldiers used in the ancient Maritime Forest. An upscale grocery market, spa, and shopping area is a short golf cart ride away. Discover the Bald Head Island Conservancy at the end of South Beach, where you can learn about the island’s wildlife.
We have a professional property manager who lives full time on the island to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. They will be able to help with any concerns once you arrive.

Al Mare was perfect for my husband and I and two of our college-aged children. I love the reverse floor plan so we can see the water while we eat, relax, and play games together. The house was one of the best stocked homes I’ve ever rented. They even had dog bowls and a mat. The AC worked like a champ, and I actually turned it up a bit because I was cold. The beds were very comfortable, and the bathrooms were great. The place was spotless when we arrived. Flora Bluffs is one of my favorite locations on Bald Head because you sometimes feel like you have the beach to yourselves. My kids love shell hunting as they walk towards the Shoals. Our stay was too short this time, but I will would definitely stay at Al Mare again. A beautiful home. Thank you!

We’ve stayed in several different homes on BHI and enjoyed this for our family of 5. Pros: The house was just steps from the beach - great location! Very clean, with beautiful bathrooms. Lots of light. We enjoyed playing board games (Monopoly and Scrabble). Convenient laundry, plenty of towels, shutters that kept the bedrooms nice and dark for sleeping in. No roaches or other bugs (which is unusual in our experience on BHI!). Loved the fenced yard for our dog. Cons: some carpentry issues with the recent renovation. The door handles are finicky and placed too close to the shutters, so we kept jamming our fingers every time we had to lock the door. It sounds like a minor thing to complain about, but it was pretty frustrating, and a few times, painful. We didn’t plan to cook much, but this kitchen wasn’t as well stocked as other spots we’ve stayed. The garage isn’t deep enough for the 6-seater golf cart, requiring us to wrestle with bungee cords to pull up the rear every time we wanted to open and close the doors. There were lots of bikes in multiple sizes, but I don’t think they get used often - very flat tires and some rusty parts to inflate them, and no helmets. Beach equipment was spotty. Not much in the way of toys for kids. A couple of broken boogie boards. No umbrellas or shade of any kind, so make sure you bring your own. (Several beach chairs in good condition, though!) As you can see, the cons are all minor quibbles. Overall, we had a really wonderful stay!

We love Al Mare! This is our second stay there and it is just perfect. Just a few steps from the beach! The "upside down" floor plan is fabulous since we spend more time upstairs in the kitchen living and dining room with wonderful views over the dunes of the ocean. And the kitchen is also exactly what you need. We love to cook and the kitchen has everything you need. The bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs are very nicely done (recently remodeled) with comfortable beds and I love the master shower. I can't think of anything that I would change. We have stayed twice and plan to come back again next year for 3 weeks!! Tyler and Barbara were great and very responsive to anything we asked or needed. They are a joy to work with.
