About this house rental
This contemporary 4 bedroom 3 bath home on Lieutenant Island was built in 1994, is light and airy, nicely furnished, has all the usual amenities and is fairly private. The island's lovely sandy beaches can be reached by paths over the dunes in about 5 minutes. There are two decks, a large deck with access from the living room and smaller deck on the second floor, off the primary bedroom. The main floor, which has a wall A/C unit, has an open floor plan with kitchen, dining and living areas with sliders leading to the first floor deck as well as one bedroom with a queen bed and a bathroom with tub and shower. On the second floor there is a large bedroom with a king bed, a deck and an adjoining bath as well as two more bedrooms, one with a queen and one with two twin beds with another bath. The primary bedroom, with the king bed, also has a window A/C unit. By car it is 10-15 minutes to beaches at the ocean and ponds and to Wellfleet Center. Access to and from Lieutenant Island may be delayed for 1-2 hours at high tides as the road leading to and from the bridge may be underwater. An administrative fee and applicable taxes may apply. Linens not provided. Guests may rent linens or bring their own.

We loved the island and proximity to the beach. Wonderful visit overall. House is well laid out. Well equipped kitchen although the dishwasher could use replacing as the racks are quite rusty. 3 bedrooms do not have AC and between warmer summers and having to keep all windows closed due to "no see-ums" (in July), paddle and portable fans were not sufficient. We were unable to sit outside day or night due to bugs. The master bedroom adjoining bath has no shower (which isn't in the listing) and is shared with the twin bedded room which isn't clear in the listing. It also says "a queen [bedroom} and one with two twin beds with another bath". That bath is in the upstairs queen room and not shared with the queen and twin rooms. The bathrooms need more towel racks or hooks to hang towels.To avoid losing our time slot, we had to sign a lease while we were out of the country, but requested doing an on site visit on our return to make sure the house met our parameters. The lease even states that viewing the property is highly recommended. However, after numerous attempts, we were told we couldn't see the house because "we typically don't show vacation rentals or the homes don't show well because they're not rental ready". From what we could tell, the homeowner uses slipcovers on the living room furniture and covers the dining room table with a pad and table cloth which is totally understandable and could easily have been addressed during a visit. Our experience with the agent wasn't great.

We have had another fine stay at 35 Fifth Street. The house is meticulously maintained and equipped. It was perfect when our son and his family visited; they could just use the entire upper floor, with a separate bedroom for each of the older children. For the two of us, it is a peaceful, secluded house. Air conditioning in the master bedroom and downstairs is a plus; we needed it several days this summer.

We have come back to this house several times because it is very comfortable, well-equipped, and spacious enough to house our son's family of 3 children when they visit. The secluded setting provides true privacy. It is clear that the owner takes great care of the property both inside and out.
