About this house rental

Gracious comforts of yesteryears and featured in the coffee table book, The Hawaiian House Now, the home is an historic 1895 structure, modified in the 1940s. Retaining the charm of old Hawaii with architecture and furnishings of the day, while satisfying the needs and aesthetic of today's lifestyle, you'll be captivated by its relaxed atmosphere and convenience being close to all of Kona's offerings.

Panoramic views of the ocean, Kona coast, tree canopy, landscaped yard, and surrounding pastures will amaze. The cool 1,200' elevation of Holualoa, the open lanais, spacious bedrooms, and a well-appointed kitchen are sure to please. The rural feeling of Hale Akala and the large established yard with old plantings of avocado, ulu (breadfruit,) fig, starfruit (carambola,) dragon fruit, and banana is guaranteed to take you away from life's stresses and please the senses.

Four bedrooms to choose from, of which three have their own private en suite. The fourth bedroom, with a queen-sized bed, is on the lower level of the home and adjacent to the TV/sitting room. Three sets of French doors extend to a terraced area in the yard, providing the room beautiful light. The middle (and main-floor) level consists of kitchen, dining, living room, two lanais, and two bedrooms with queen-sized beds. Upper-level primary-suite has a king-sized bed, two window seats, single sleigh bed and pull out twin ottoman to sleep up to four adults in beds. The two wide window seats can sleep a young child. The sleigh day-bed area is just outside a door and separate from the primary bedroom. In total, one king, three queens, and one single will accommodate eleven (MAX) people in beds in the home. Two ottoman twin pull out options for overflow sleep two more and the window seats allow for two children more. Lower floor accesses the yard and outdoor cooking terrace via stairs from the kitchen as well as from the ocean-side lanai.

Separately rentable, a charming 1940-era guest cottage with a screened-in lanai, galley kitchen (toaster, microwave, electric kettle, fridge) and shower bath, privately situated across the driveway, sleeps two in a queen bed, allowing larger parties to use the entire property. As it is a separate booking, please scroll down the page to Owner Information to view this additional VRBO listing, #643478. Separate rates apply.

Take a leisurely stroll through the yard and grounds. The family's 38 pound Sivetz air-roaster is operated in the roast hale (house in Hawaiian) on property in the outbuilding in large yard to the north of the home. Schedule yourselves to see a roast occur and take home fresh 100% Kona coffee to friends and family. This same expansive yard to the north is super for bocce, throwing a football or frisbee. Sitting on the lawn chairs to take in a sunset spectacle is a favorite pass-time and will delight star-gazers, daydreamers, and cloud watchers. Gas BBQ in carport outside the kitchen door.

**Please consider NOT purchasing single-use water bottles. The kitchen island's sink fixture is filtered water. In addition, our rain fed aquifer lens-sourced Hawaii county water is treated, safe to drink, and delicious! Please consider bringing your beverage flasks and using them while visiting the island! We all need to use less plastic! Thank you.

The property was just as advertised, and more! We would consider staying there again, and would recommend it to family and friends. Here’s why:Our family of six had more than enough space for our four night stay. The home is so unique and charming, with community spaces and contemplative areas as well. The lanai was a favorite place for morning coffee and family games. The large dining room table is where we ate all of our meals, and the kitchen table was another place for game night. The kids loved to curl up on the window seat in the kitchen! And the kitchen is quite large and had enough kitchen supplies for us to make our dinners. The industrial coffee grinder was clutch! It was quite convenient to have a washer and dryer, which we used a few times. In the laundry room there are so many water sport/toys for use. We didn’t use them, but for those who are looking to snorkel or need their own beach towels those seem to be available. Having beach chairs, a beach, umbrella, and coolers available for use was also a very nice touch. And the top floor shower is luxurious! Views from the home, both looking out over the coast, as well as looking back at the house were very inspiring. It was almost like the kids were living in a fairytale setting. And the sunsets…!The property is about 15 minutes from Kailua-Kona, making trips to the grocery store quite easy.

This property is amazing! For a brief few days we really felt like Ohana in Hawaii. The Pink House is an amazing home with so much history. The gardens are beautiful and the Lanai is one of a kind. We easily slept 8 in the home and had room to hide from one another when necessary. It’s located very close to some restaurants, and a quick drive down to the touristy things. We arranged our own fishing excursions and horse back riding in the area with easy from this location. The evening breezes kept the home comfortable for our group from a very hot/dry climate. Thank you Lisa and Blue Sky!

Beautiful location, beautiful home, excellent access to everything you need, and everything you might want to visit or explore. I can't think of anything we wanted that wasn't already in the home. It's just a good vibe in every meaningful way. Met Lisa one day one, in a friendly, comfortable "welcome, let me know if you need anything" kind of way. You can believe any other reviews you read that have positive things to say.

Great yard, if sharing with multiple families, only communal bathroom is upstairs. The two other bathrooms are in bedrooms and there’s no bathroom in the bottom living/bedroom area. Also, the bottom bedroom area isn’t fully enclosed as the stairs leading from the balcony to it is open air.
