About this cottage rental

Just half a mile from the large golden sandy beach at Porth and even less to Whipsiderry beach on the coast road just north of Newquay, this is one of a small group of single and two storey cottages with Cornish country views. The cottage is also just a couple of miles or so from the rest of Newquay's surfing beaches including Fistral, It's also about a mile using the public footpaths to Watergate Bay from the cottage. Watergate Bay is also known for it's kite surfing and was until a few years ago the home to one of Jamie Oliver’s 'Fifteen' restaurants. It was also once the setting for the ITV series Echo Beach staring Jason Donovan.

Chy Byghan is one of a number of cottages converted from stone built around a central courtyard. The original barns are not far off 200 years old! Snuck into one corner, the double glazed front door opens into a small entrance hall with a refurbished shower room and toilet with hand basin on one side and electrically heated towel rail. A double bedroom facing the inner courtyard is on the opposite side. At the rear of the cottage, a door leads through to a bright living room and kitchen/dining area with a natural decor and colour scheme and two windows looking across the road to fields and the countryside. There is a small enclosed gated area at the front - useful if you have a dog along with a decked area.

The property underwent a refresh in 2024 and recently had some further work to make some more improvements. There is a seating area with a sofa bed (with a mattress designed to be good for your back) and a kitchen/diner with a dining table, bench seats and a galley style kitchen area with light coloured fitted units and a washing machine. The cottage floors are high quality wood effect with a rug also in the lounge area. It also has built in cupboards at the end and a SMART TV where you can watch your favourite channels such as the BBC iplayer and Netflix and more if you have an account. The shower room floor is non slip.

There's a large shared car park at the rear of the group of cottages.

What's nearby: If you want to give the car a rest and help the environment, then jump on a bus. There is normally a service that runs along the road next to the cottages during the summer months and an all year round one from the end of the road.

Porth beach offers safe bathing and is around a ten minute walk by road from the cottage, as are a pub that serves food, cafes and the coastal footpath.

Whipsiderry beach is at the end of the road and took us about 7 minutes to walk to at the time with a 5 year-old and a nine year-old so we think that's not bad! It's in a cove with steps down and has got caves and rock pools to explore and a vast sandy beach when the tide is out you can also access it this way if you are careful, when the tide is out and it a good surfing beach which not that many know about!

There's a convenience shop in the camp site just a few minutes walk down the road which you can also use. Local hotels in the area welcome non-residents to their restaurants. golf, horse riding and ten pin bowling are all available nearby. There is also the Mermaid Inn which serves good food every day on Porth beach.

The cottage has many features including a microwave, kettle and toaster and a travel cot. Electricity and heating is inclusive as is free Wi-Fi. Ideal for a couple but for a value holiday it can sleep up to 4 (2+2 that is a double bed and a double sofa bed*).

Bed linen is also provided. We also offer a discount off our nightly rates for all stays if 7 nights or more.

Want to bring your pet? We're happy to accept well behaved dogs and have even been known to let some other types of pet stay. We once had a parrot enjoy a week at the cottage! Like most properties there is a pet fee which is currently £22 per pet with a maximum of two dogs.

Brilliant location, just over 10 mins walk to the coast path and beach. Pet- friendly, quiet and great communication with the owners. Have stayed before, and would definitely come back again if we come to the same area. What more could we want?

Cottage was very clean, well equipped with all we needed. However seating very uncomfortable and windows fight next to road with people looking in.

Quiet, rural, peaceful cottage. Very cozy for my wife and me, who are traveling from the United States. Hosts were very responsive to our questions. The only thing we would have liked to know in advance is that we needed to supply our own laundry detergent and our own additional rolls of toilet paper, as there was only one roll.

We had a wonderful time in this very cozy and practical holiday apartment, which is equipped with everything you need for a pleasant stay in Cornwall. The arrival and communication with Ian were very straightforward and pleasant. We can wholeheartedly recommend the apartment and would return anytime. It's really ideal for two people – for four, it might be a bit too small in our opinion. For German travelers: The duvet is typically English, meaning it is one large duvet for the entire bed – if you prefer to sleep with separate duvets as a couple, you should bring your own.

Ian was very helpful given Vrbo platform comms was awful (App may be better). Had a lovely couple of days stay and excellent local dog walking and Beach a short walk too. Cottage was clean, comfortable and well appointed. Well positioned for local coastal adventuring. Would recommend arriving in day light as the car park is not lit and access for unloading everything was not that straightforward! Otherwise a great stay.

Good location both rural, plus close to Porth beach and my relations. However, the accommodation was very poor. Grubby, tired and shabby. An armchair I needed to cover with my dressing gown, not fit to sit on, corroded hot plates etc etc etc. I have photos to evidence my comments. Saving grace, effective storage heaters!
