We really enjoyed our stay at GENTE di MARE. The host was amazing—friendly, helpful, and very flexible with check-in and checkout times. The apartment was spacious, clean, and comfortable: a large living room with kitchenette, a bedroom with AC, bathroom, and balcony with a great view (we also had an extra bedroom we didn’t use). It felt a bit like having our own villa :)
The location is probably the best possible one for exploring Maratea. From the property gate, the road on the right leads to the local center and further to Fiumicello beach (Tip: look for the stone-step shortcut on the left at the first intersection). The road on the left and through a tunnel goes to the train station and, if you turn right after the tunnel, to a path up to the historic center (a pleasant but not too demanding walk). There’s also a bus between the lower town and the historic center, though the schedule varies by season. In addition, Marina di Maratea is only a 4-minute train ride away, with more lovely beaches (Tip: buy return tickets in advance as there’s no ticket machine there).
We initially worried about being close to the station, but it turned out not to be an issue at all. The station was quiet and well managed, and the occasional passing train hardly disturbed the overall peace. At night, closing the window and using the AC ensured perfect sleep.
The shower cabin design, with its fixed shower head, was a little unusual, but it worked just fine :)
