Solkot Cottage Homestay

We enjoyed our stay there. Totally great location, convenience for those who are not self drive. Located next street of the church, just a few mins walk to the church, which is also a bus stop no 8. If u book any day tour u might hop on & off at this bus stop. Few mins walk to bus stop no 11 as well which able to grab blue lagoon bus. Walk slightly further for bus stop no 12, also a bus stop for starting your day tour. U will see a lot of tourist waiting there in the morning for their tour. U may hop off at bus stop no 9 once u finish your mid night northern light tour. 10-11 Laugavegur at bus stop no 9 which open 24hours so that able to grab some snacks and few mins walk bck to this homestay. Near rainbow street, there are plenty of restaurant and covenience shop near by.

No washing machine provided but luckily just few mins walk to Laundramat wash. No elevetor but we totally understand that this is a history icelandic house and it just second floor hence not a big deal for us to carry luggage. For those complaint about elevator should pay extra and book other homestay instead. Shared bathroom & kitchen, but both totally clean & well equiment. Hence not a big deal for us. All guest sharing same main entrance code/key which is not convenience but all guest put bck the key once enter the building hence everything was smooth during our stay. It using traditional key for room entrance, we facing little problem there but owner response very quick and solve the issue even in the mid night.

Never did get wifi. An old property but it is right in the heart of things

clean and cozy

Location was perfect. It's in the middle of pretty much everything. Inside was warm enough. Wifi speed was good. Kitchen was good. Lowest price in downtown though it was still expensive like everything else in Iceland. Host was very friendly and nice. Supermarkets and restaurants are just in walking distance.

"Key rules" were really annoying. I suppose it's time for the owner to switch to automatic locks. Sound insulation was absolutely horrible. Precisely, there was no sound insulation at all. If you whisper in your room, the whole house can hear it. Not so comfortable after a long journey and you are tired. Hot water in the kitchen tap smelled sulphury. Maybe that's common in everywhere in Iceland. There was a little spider in the room. We had to make sure that the little guy didn't pop in to our backpacks. Otherwise, we are in a big trouble at the airport security checking.
