Castel Rochefort sur Nenon Jura

Set in a quiet village with a local bar and restaurant within a short walk from the house. Parking is within the grounds. We paid for an upgrade on arrival to have a bedroom with more natural light on the first floor of the house. The rooms - bedroom, sitting room and bathroom were large and the bed very comfortable. There was a kettle and a coffee pod machine with a small selection of tea bags/coffee pods. The garden has a range of different places to sit out. Breakfast was a selection of bread, cheese, ham, a pastry, yoghurt, cereal and a fruit salad. A boiled egg/omelet was also available.

Tea selection was not refilled during our stay. Bathroom soaps/creams didn’t match the price point or the style of the property.

My wife and I were on our way south to Switzerland. This was an overnight stay . The room was large, airy and comfortable. Breakfast was of a very high standard and beautifully presented. The property is amazing; very old and a challenge for the owners as they slowly get on top of the furbishment the property requires. It is located on the banks of a canal and if you are interested in rock-climbing a short walk to the east along the canal will bring you to some cliffs that are clearly challenging for budding climbers.

We chose to have dinner in a restaurant in the village..........this was an error ................the standard of cuisine left a lot to be desired. We should have gone into Dole where there is a good selection of restaurants.

On the doorstep to spectacular walking and cycling routes with pretty Dole just a short drive away. Hosts were lovely, breakfast was perfect and the Castel was everything you could wish for in a castle. Hiring their electric bikes for the day enabled a superb outing.

It really was a lovely two day stay and we have a list of nearby visits, cycle rides and restaurants we want to visit on another occasion. Quite a gem.

Ein altes Rittergut und man fühlt sich wie ein Ritter. Vor allem beim Frühstück, das in einem stilecht eingerichteten Saal an einer großen Holztafel serviert wird. Kein Buffet, sondern liebevoll am Platz angerichtete regionale Spezialitäten. Den Service besorgt die Inhaberin mit großer Fürsorge selbst.
