Riad Old City Palace

The location in the Medina is perfect as it is within the walls but not in the busy (and noisy) market areas. The house is decorated in the traditional style and offers different sized accommodations for couples or families. They offer a local type breakfast and you can have meals there as well. The staff is outstanding, arranging tours, walks or transportation and even acxompanying you themselves. All in all, it is an excellent value for the cost.

We had an issue with the room we were given at first, but we were immediately changed to another one. The response was very straightforward.

The stay was great, very accommodating and did a nice surprise for my daughter for her birthday.

Everything about this property, including the staff has been the best experience in Morocco, by far. Aziz is beyond exceptional, he put the bar so high that my experiences elsewhere in the future have been disappointing. I truly miss him. He was very welcoming and kind. Attentive to any of our minuscule needs. The dinners were the best food we had in Fez. We still think about their dishes while In another Riad! Their staff, a young lady, Nada and two young boys (one was named Shoueib but i forgot the others name unfortunately, i just know he wore gray Jordan 1s and had black curly hair) were always checking up our itinerary and improving on it. They made sure to deliver us to our designated meeting stop for our bus after checkout. They even delivered dinner to the rooftop which is quite the hassle to get to to with multiple plates.

Just an annoying cat that hangs around the property that we named little satan. He is spoiled and quite the rascal. He bullies other cats on the rooftop and will get on your lap to smell the plate!

On the positive side, the hospitality was excellent, the entire staff was super friendly, attentive, and really made us feel welcome. The food was also delicious, which we greatly appreciated. The location was okay, being inside the old city, it’s very close to one of the Medina exits. This made it convenient, but it didn’t feel charming

The riad doesn’t accept card payments, everything had to be settled in cash. This meant having to find an ATM and paying extra commission fees, which was frustrating. During our stay, the riad was under construction. There was dust, the smell of fresh paint, and construction workers in the common areas, which really reduced privacy and comfort. The rooms themselves were quite spacious, but they weren’t well isolated, you could hear noise from other guests and common areas very easily. The bathroom, however, left a lot to be desired: it was really small, had noticeable dampness, and the shower didn’t drain properly.
