Charming City Centre of Zurich

The location is fantastic, just off one on the main walking malls with plenty of restaurants and bars, but still very quiet.

The location was perfect!! I was attending a conference at ETH, and this is just a couple minutes walk from the Polybahn that goes up to the ETH, so I would reach it in about 5 minutes. It is also walking distance from the main train station and from Central tram/bus stops, so it is SO easy to reach!! It is located on Niederdorfstrasse, which turned out to be a main pedestrian street in the old town full of small shops, pubs, restaurants. It is also just a block from the Limmat river. Really central and perfect location, even though the street IS noisy. I also liked that there were small shops (and a big COOP supermarket) nearby to get groceries. The apartment was very good size, the bed comfortable and it was well equipped. I loved it! And although I only contacted my hosts by message, they were very accommodating. I was originally grateful. But not anymore (see dislikes). (Edited a month later)

The stairs are very narrow. There is no lift and it was difficult to go up the stairs with luggage. The apartment I got was on the first floor so it was OK, but still difficult to go up. The stairs were also dark at night until I found that the light switch at the bottom of the stairs was on the OUTSIDE of the building. Another issue was that it was very hot on the days I was there. There was a fan in the apartment but opening the windows meant hearing all the noise from the busy street and also smelling people smoking. So I had to rely on the fan and was hot. But the closed windows DID block the noise from outside, because it IS a very busy and noisy pedestrian street with bars and restaurants. There were also a couple of small issues in the apartment: The shower head had a leak that sent water sideways and the first day that meant that the water went out of the shower. Afterwards I managed to shower in a way to avoid the water going out, but it was not so comfortable. I also would have liked more than 1.5 rolls of paper for a 5.5 day stay! I managed, but it was tight. --------- I am adding this a month later after my original review. I have requested AGAIN and AGAIN an invoice from the hosts since 9 June and they do not send it!! It has cost me a reimbursement from my office as I was on a business trip. I am so disappointed in them!
