Shepherd Yeat End, Near Windermere

A charming Lake District cottage, it is nestled along a private lane in the Gilpin Valley completely insulated from the hustle and bustle of nearby Kendal and Windermere so is perfect for unwinding. It is surrounded by woods and peaceful fields with sheep. We liked the winter evenings by the wood stove, but can imagine the summer evenings would be lovely too on the elevated deck with distant views. Despite being a centuries old building it has been very sympathetically done up and now has the original Victorian Beatrix Potter feel but is warm and has all mod cons. There's very little light pollution so we loved the starry skies at night. One caution: although not the slightest problem for those of reasonable mobility, the step into the front door is quite high and the stairs are steep, my parents in their 90s struggled a bit when they came to visit, but they did manage. The owner was quick to reply when we had a query. We hope to come back one day :-).

Very peaceful surroundings and great for the dogs

Spacious garden, quaint little cottage in a quite location near by Lake windermere and kendal. Lot's of places to explore and good for the dogs

No where to hand clothes inside or outside however there was a washer dryer but I am not used to tumble dryers clothes as its expensive and I prefer to hang out in fresh air. wasn't a big issue at all but just wanted to advise this. also there was a coffee machine which wasn't re-stocked so we couldn't use it. I did let the host know but it wasn't resolved. there was old hard coffee in a pot. freezer would need defrosting as drawers were really stuck.

A quiet, out the way cottage ideal for a peaceful stay. Relatively easy to get to Windermere and other locations but you do need to be comfortable on single track roads with only occasional passing places. Our dog loved the garden!
