Takarunga Road House sits at the foot of North Head, the volcanic headland at the eastern end of the Devonport peninsula, with the entrance to the reserve at the top of the street and Devonport Domain directly opposite. North Head is the most significant coastal defence site in New Zealand, with tunnels, disappearing guns and commanding views over the Hauraki Gulf, Rangitoto and the city skyline, and it is open to walk every day of the week. Cheltenham Beach is only a few minutes away on foot, long, white-sand and calm enough for young children to swim. The waterfront runs the other way past Torpedo Bay, the Navy Museum and the cafes along King Edward Parade, and Devonport Village is about a fifteen-minute walk away, with cafes, bakeries, a supermarket, galleries, restaurants, the weekend craft market and the heritage Victoria Cinema. Mount Victoria, the other volcanic cone, is a short walk in the other direction and has the better view back towards the city. From the wharf it is a 12-minute crossing to downtown Auckland, putting Britomart, Viaduct Harbour, the Sky Tower and the Waiheke Island ferries within easy reach, and the Hauraki Gulf islands are an easy day trip. Schools, playgrounds, sports fields and the Devonport Domain playground are all close at hand.

Guests have exclusive use of the whole four-bedroom house and its garden. That includes all four bedrooms, the main bathroom and second bathroom, the kitchen, the ground-floor living area, the attic living room, the laundry, the deck with its outdoor table and the lawn. A double garage and brick driveway provide off-street parking, which matters in Devonport, and fast WiFi runs throughout. Arrival is by contactless self check-in: full directions, entry details and your door code are sent shortly before your arrival. There are no shared spaces and no other guests at all.

The property is well-connected with convenient public transport options within walking distance. The Devonport Domain Bus Stop (2-minute walk) and Cambria Road Bus Stop (3-minute walk) provide easy access to nearby areas including Takapuna and the wider North Shore.

For travel into the city, the Devonport Ferry Terminal is just an 8-minute walk away, offering a fast and scenic 12-minute ferry ride to Auckland CBD, with frequent daily departures. It’s one of the most enjoyable and reliable ways to commute, with stunning harbour views along the way.

Before you book this Devonport holiday home. The house is fully private and self-contained, with no shared spaces and no other guests. It sleeps seven, has four bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms, and the minimum stay is five nights. Please note: there is one toilet in the house, in the main bathroom, plus a second room with a bath only, which is worth planning around. Check-in is from 3pm by self check-in and check-out is by 10am; earlier or later times are often possible - just ask. Maximum occupancy is seven guests, including infants. This is a quiet residential street, so no parties, events or commercial photography, and no noise outdoors after 10pm. The home is strictly smoke-free indoors and out. Pets are considered on request, so please ask before you book. The attic living room is reached by a steep staircase, so young children will need supervision up there. Included in each stay: fresh linen and towels, tea, coffee, pantry basics, starter toiletries, washing machine and dryer, and fast unlimited WiFi. The home is professionally cleaned before every arrival. For stays longer than two months, a full clean is compulsory; we quote this at booking and add it to your final cost.
