Location, piece and quiet, pub food.

Pub was closed Monday and Tuesday (knew in advance). Table booking mix up on Saturday eve.

It is located in a beautiful small village, with easy access to the A1. This made it a perfect base for exploring the Dales and the Moors. Perfect for us, as we were planning to tour the North Yorkshire Abbeys. The shops in nearby Bedale, Thirsk and Ripon had excellent food shops if you are choosing to self-cater. The lodge was spacious and very well appointed. The kitchen has fridge (including a small freezer compartment), microwave, toaster and kettle. If you want to BBQ contact the owners who can supply a gas bbq. We took small disposable BBQs and borrowed two bricks to protect the ground. This is one of two lodges at the end of a long pub garden. The area felt private and we were not bothered by noise etc from the pub. We had the alpaca field next door, which was entertaining. The owners could not have been more friendly and welcoming. The pub is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so if you arrive on those days you will need to consider your evening meal arrangements. There was a welcome pack - tea, real coffee, milk, butter, bread, jam and biscuits. I do recommend the pub for an evening meal - especially their homemade pies. We were impressed and will return next year; there is so much to see and do in the area. We happened to be staying in the middle of the heat wave - despite the heat the cabin was really cool when the windows were opened up.

We genuinely have no criticisms- the owners have done a great job and thinking about all the niceties.
