About this house rental

Step back in time into Capt. Robert Hichborn's home, an elegant and comfortable 163 year old respite from your travels along the coast of Maine. Centrally located, this historic gem is within an hour to everywhere; from Camden to Rockport, Belfast to Bar Harbor, Augusta to Bangor, and Castine to Deer Isle, you are in the center!

This lovingly cared for home boasts original wide pumpkin pine flooring, 10 foot ceilings, local art, board games, good feels, and very comfy beds and bedding.
The house has a parlor/game room stocked with board games, a comfy living room with ROKU TV and Sofa Sleeper, and a dining room that can seat eight (ask for extra chairs). All of the artwork is original and done by artists within an hour radius.

There is a care taker, Tiffany, who lives in an apartment above the kitchen with her entrance door in the home’s dining room. You will likely not see her unless you need her!

In the summer, the owner, Amanda, is often on premises with her Pitbull Chonkasaurus, Mike and his side pittie, Helen. She has a studio on the side of the home.

The stairs to the second floor where three of the bedrooms and the shower are located, are steep.

The twin bedroom is directly in front of the second floor bathroom; it is the hallway to the bathroom and has no door.

The gardens are coming along nicely. Please do not allow children or pets to play in gardens.

There is a fantastic porch to sit on at night to watch the stars and share stories from your day.

Laundry available for guests staying four or more nights!

Plenty of parking!

Beautifully-appointed, very clean, comfortable bright, updated historic home in easy-access central location. Large kitchen had all that we needed, set up in a user-friendly way. Bathrooms great with lovely old bathtub, great water pressure, super cushy towels! Wifi worked great. Amanda and Tiff the housekeeper were very helpful and easy and fun to interact with, and we looked forward to seeing the dogs Mike and Helen each day. Our only slight issue was with high season traffic noise at night from Route 1, which is understandable given location, it just caught us off guard. Once we adjusted to it, it was fine. We kayaked, hiked, and ate out daily in all locations within an hour of the house. A few miles away at Stockton Springs Marina is an EXCELLENT restaurant called The Cove which is like eating at the home of a friend who happens to be a pro chef. Highly recommended.

Lovely 19th century feel with a very modern kitchen. The host and fellow-inhabitant (of the back of the building) were charming, the very few times we saw them. Expectations were clear to us, but to reiterate; there's one shower and one giant tub in two bathrooms. The upstairs bathroom is accessed via one of the two bedrooms. We found this only slightly awkward. Put an "early riser" in one of those bedrooms. Location is perfect for visiting Belfast, Bucksport, or day trips to Blue Hills, Mount Desert Island, Camden, etc. Some traffic noise went away at bedtime. Lovely art and furnishings made the place feel special.
