The host was amazing, she helped us with transportation and things to do, she was nice and friendly.

The cabin was amazing, had everything we needed.

Bobby the dog is one of the best amenities :) The property and location are beautiful, and upon check in it was clean and well stocked. We were greeted by the housekeeper and her son upon arrival on the dock since the property was in a remote location and best accessed by water. Lolita and Antonio were warm and very welcoming, making us feel at home. The indoor space was well curated and designed especially considering the small foot print. Also, Juan and Emilio the super quick thinking lancha pilots recommended by Dushinka the property owner really saved us in a jam. Be prepared with exact change (cash GTQ) to pay in full at check in. Although not ideal, the need for cash payment was apparent from reading prior reviews and confirmed by Dushinka the property owner.

On our way to meet the recommended boat captain we learned of civil unrest affecting road travel to Santiago and were told it would be wise to avoid the roads on our departure. We thought it odd that the host never mentioned this. The property was lovely and as expected when checking in at 3pm. By evening lights were flickering when the water ran but living in New Orleans in the aftermath of many hurricanes we chalked it up to a fragile power grid which we know all about. At about 5am we lost power and water since presumably the water pump is electric. We waited a few hours before contacting the host, assuming power would return. But when by 11am it didn't I sent the host a text. She downplayed our concerns suggesting we go for a swim (in water that research tells me is fairly polluted). The host indicated that nothing could be done since it was a Sunday. She sent her housekeeper with some chocolates, a 5 gallon jug of drinking water, and contacted the boat captain on our behalf to arrange our pick up at 9:30 the next morning. Later that night around 5:30pm power was restored, but we never regained any water pressure. I notified her of this but received no reply, so we heated pots of water on the stove to bathe. The next morning while packing I received a frantic message shortly after 8am telling me the boat would arrive in 20 mins and that we must leave immediately because political unrest was forcing closure of water traffic to and from the town. This was the first time she acknowledged the situation in town although we could hear explosions and gunshots in the distance all night. As we were packing, her gardeners arrived and used a generator to start up the water pump, which meant that there was a quick solution that could have restored water while we were there. We are not naive to volatile political climates and have gone long without power after storms in sweltering heat, but the host's lack of communication, action or compensation was disappointing.
