new hoover hostel

The location is good, especially for first-time visitors to Hong Kong. The staff were accommodating, friendly, and pleasant. However, we booked **one room with two beds**, but we were given **one room with only one bed**, which was quite disappointing. There was also an unfortunate incident on my birthday when a **police raid took place at the hotel entrance**. It was an unexpected and unsettling experience, especially on a special day. Overall, the location and staff were good, but the room arrangement and the incident during our stay affected our experience. But overall, the experience is okay. just be mindful about the rooms. I recommended this to all first timers. Keep it up the good work.

We probably would have had a hard time locating the reception because the building is like a maze with so many doors and different entrances. Good thing there are many Filipinos in Hong Kong who are always willing to guide and help. At the ground floor, a Filipino kindly guided us on which elevator to take to reach the reception. When we arrived at the 3rd floor, Sunny found us and assisted us with the check-in. I’m not sure if Sunny is the owner, but he was the one who assisted us during our stay. The room wasn’t that big, but it was definitely worth the price. One evening, we accidentally left the key hanging on the doorknob, so the door wasn’t properly locked. We were all already asleep, and Sunny kept knocking on the door, but we were sleeping so deeply that we didn’t hear him. He eventually opened the door, and my friend woke up and saw Sunny reminding us about the key. He simply left after that. He was very kind and responsible for making sure we were safe. Overall, Sunny is a good man, and we appreciated his help during our stay.

Affordable, Clean Room & Very Accomodating Personnel. Not spacious but enough to pull off the 5 days tour. With common ref, kitchen ware & utensils

I stayed at New Hoover Hostel during my first solo international trip, and overall, I had a good experience. The location is one of its biggest advantages. It’s inside Chungking Mansions, close to the MTR and many tourist attractions. The entrance can feel a little overwhelming because of the people approaching visitors, but the hostel being on the 3rd floor was convenient, especially with my 20kg luggage. My room was small but manageable for one person. I expected this since accommodations in Hong Kong can be quite compact and older. There were some cleanliness and maintenance issues, such as dust on the fan, an old air conditioner that occasionally leaked, and a slightly moldy smell in the bathroom ventilation. What really made my stay enjoyable was the staff, especially Sunny at the front desk. I arrived around 11 PM after a stressful journey, and he was incredibly helpful, friendly, and welcoming. His kindness made me feel safe and comfortable throughout my stay. The owner seemed strict and less interactive, but it wasn’t a major issue. Overall, I felt the experience was fair for the price. It’s not a luxury stay, but if you’re looking for affordable accommodation in a very convenient location, it does the job. Despite the shortcomings, I had a safe and memorable first solo international trip and returned home with no regrets.
