Yishang Hotel Guangzhou Huadu Square District Government branch

We booked this hotel through Agoda specifically requesting a non-smoking room, as one of us is pregnant and another has sinus issues. Unfortunately, this became a major problem during our stay. When we arrived, we confirmed with the receptionist that we had booked a non-smoking room. We were told that the hotel does not have designated non-smoking rooms because they cannot control what guests do inside their rooms. This was concerning, especially since we had specifically selected a non-smoking room when booking. The first night, we stayed in the room type we had booked, but there was a noticeable smell of old/third-hand cigarette smoke throughout the room, particularly from the carpets and wallpaper. We also found an ashtray on the desk. The hotel had a diffuser running, presumably to mask the smell, but the fragrance was so strong that it gave us a headache. It did not solve the underlying smoke issue. The second night, we met a very kind female manager who genuinely tried her best to help after understanding that one of us was pregnant. She went out of her way to find us a better room. The new room was significantly larger and had tile flooring, so initially it seemed much better. Unfortunately, once we turned on the air conditioning, the smell of old cigarette smoke came back strongly, apparently from the AC system. We ultimately had to sleep without the AC. We tolerated the situation for two nights because we had business in the area, but eventually decided we could not stay any longer. We moved to another hotel on the fourth night and had to forfeit the remaining 1.5 nights of our booking. I really wanted to like this hotel because it offers excellent value for money, very spacious rooms, and the free laundry is a great amenity. The female manager was also genuinely helpful and kind, and I appreciate that she made a real effort to find us a more suitable room. Any stars given is for her. Unfortunately, the smoking issue was not something that could be resolved during our stay. I was also disappointed with Agoda’s handling of the situation, as they repeatedly directed us back to the hotel rather than helping to resolve the issue despite the fact that we had specifically booked a non-smoking room through their platform. If you are sensitive to cigarette smoke, have respiratory/sinus issues, or are pregnant, I would strongly recommend confirming directly with the hotel what they can actually guarantee regarding smoking before booking. The hotel could otherwise be a great-value option, but for us, the smoke made the stay ultimately intolerable.

Hotel is good in this price. Staff very cooperative, lift and surrounding areas were not clean.

The hotel is clean with good staff service. Located near marts and restaurants.
