Cabin in Troms Og Finnmark

About this cabin rental
To enjoy the view, you’ll often have to climb a few steps. In front of the cabin is a sunny and cozy balcony. From here, you can watch the fishing boats pull into the fish processing plant, Johan Kvalsvik AS. In the winter, you can bring a blanket out, sit down, and enjoy the Northern Lights.
If you get hungry and are tired of crispbread, take a stroll down to Akkar Brygge and try the legendary “Klippfisk pizza,” lasagna, or fish soup—all paired with a nice drink. There, you can also sit outside on the sun deck and watch the boats come and go. Akkar Brygge also serves as a waiting area for the boat, so it’s open from early in the morning (often with fresh bakery items for breakfast) until well into the evening.
If you want to go out on the water, check with Sørøya Rorbuer. They have fishing boats for rent. If you enjoy hiking in the mountains, there are many beautiful trails right outside the door. The most charming hike is the Sandfjell Loop. A unique natural phenomenon: you can ski down the mountainside on mini-skis—it’s covered in sand!
The most famous hiking destination is probably Tarhalsen, the northern tip of Sørøya. It’s the ultimate endpoint for the “Sørøya lengthwise” hike. It’s about a 9-km walk from Akkarfjord to the cabin.
The cabin itself is originally a historic reconstruction, modernized and well-equipped with everything you need. You first step onto a spacious porch. It’s sheltered from the wind, so it’s cozy even in most winds.
When you go inside, you can hang your things in the entryway. From there, you enter the bedroom with the bunk bed.
Then you enter the living room with the fireplace and a sleeper sofa. Here you can light a fire in the wood-burning stove while you stretch out on the sofa.
From the living room with the fireplace, you can go into the bedroom, the laundry room, or take the stairs up to the kitchen. A recently renovated, well-equipped, sunny kitchen! A lovely place to start the day. From here, you enter a bedroom with a 120-cm bed. The kitchen opens onto the living room, so many people prefer to take their coffee and settle into the armchair in front of the living room window. There’s fast, reliable internet in the cabin, but why stare at a screen when you can look out the living room window!
On stormy days, you can watch the sea fog drift in over the fjord and create a magical atmosphere. The sea fog makes for beautiful photo opportunities! In the winter, you can actually sit inside and watch the Northern Lights. (But of course, it’s more atmospheric to step out onto the porch!)
The bathroom is small and modest, but it has everything you need most: A shower with plenty of hot water (a large, efficient water heater), a toilet, and a sink.
As is to be expected of an old house that has stood since it was rebuilt after the war, the cabin is a bit rickety and crooked in places. You can take comfort in the fact that it has been just as rickety and crooked for as long as anyone can remember. One or two interior doors may be a little difficult to close, but this doesn’t pose any practical problems. The biggest challenge for overnight guests here—as elsewhere in Finnmark—is perhaps the midnight sun. We love the midnight sun when we’re out and about! But when it’s time to sleep… even though the windows have curtains and blinds, it’s very difficult to make it completely dark. A general tip when you’re on a trip to Finnmark: Bring a sleep mask :)
Amenities at Sørøya: Skipper view Akkarfjord, 210m from pub, diner and quay. Sørøya along the coast!
