High Road Haven

High Road Haven was very easy to find and conveniently located, just a few minutes from the shops surrounded by nature. Communication with our host Jenny was excellent from start to finish. We really appreciated the thoughtful touches throughout the home. Cosy, comfortable and convenient.

Loved how cosy and comfortable the cottage was, and so peaceful, with kangaroos, kookaburras and cockatoos visiting. Bathrooms lovely, beds comfy. Living area well set up. Cottage was warm. A few minutes drive to town, or about 25 mins walk along a cycle path.

Kitchen was older and awkward to use/ find things, but was fine overall. There was a bit of firewood but we had to scrounge for things to light the fire with as no paper, kindling (though plenty of that was to be found outside but we would have been in trouble if it was any wetter) or firelighters.

The property was located in a picturesque, quiet street, only a few minutes drive to Halls Gap shops and cafes. Also, it was close to a walking/bicycle track to the village. We enjoyed the wallabies visiting in early morning and at dusk. The bathrooms were spacious and modern and the towels were large and good quality. The bed in the main bedroom was comfortable. The dining/lounge area was spacious and comfortable, with a sunny aspect. The owners provided useful recommendations about the cafes prior to our stay. The air conditioners in bedrooms and lounge area were welcome.

The driveway was very boggy and narrow, which made it tricky to avoid the large trees. The parking space at the back of the property was very tight for turning. Reversing down the hazardous driveway wasn't an option. The blinds in the bedrooms let light in at the sides and at the top. Curtains are also required to block light completely. There was no clothes dryer - only 2 small drying racks. A combination washer/dryer would have been good. The kitchen is outdated and needs a dishwasher. The heater in the ensuite is on a timer which cuts off not only the heater but turns off the light as well, if all 4 heat lamps are used, leaving the room cold and dark. It was a bit of a shock on the first cold night. It took another ten minutes to restore the power. The TV is tricky to turn on. It took a while to find out that it turned on and off only if someone is pointing the remote at the rear of the TV. The lockbox fell off the wall when we opened it on arrival to retrieve the key. The wood heater is in need of a flue clean as the fire struggled to keep going, even after we bought more fire lighters. It didn't seem to be drawing enough oxygen.
