The bed was very comfortable, and the room itself was spacious with a unique charm. The bathroom was also generously sized, and I appreciated the large towels. I wasn’t a big fan of the old-school keyed locks—would have preferred a digital lock system for convenience. The restaurant and bar had a nice vibe. I didn’t order any food, but I did spend a couple of hours at the bar chatting with some locals, which was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the history of the building, the furnishings, and the overall atmosphere of the place.
There weren’t any cups provided in the room or bathroom, which made it tricky to drink water or rinse after brushing my teeth. Also, the room didn’t have its own thermostat, the temperature is controlled for the entire floor, so if it’s not set to your preference, there’s not much you can do to adjust it.

We brought our own breakfast, which suited us very well and made use of the common kitchen. Spillville is a sweet town
in a lovely area; my brother's wife has many connections there. It worked out well to have convenient access to Decorah.
We were quite impressed with the efforts made by the owner and staff to resolve the air conditioning issue. They were also very welcoming and friendly.
Unfortunately some of the air conditioning units had failed and the weather was unseasonably warm, so the first night we
were stifling. The owner and staff however went out of their way to improve the situation and installed a room air conditioner. That was a huge relief. We like to read in bed and reading lamps in the room would be nice.
