Charles Hope Boutique Hometel

I booked this hotel for my parents to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday, and they could not speak highly enough about their experince. The cleanliness of the hotel and the location stood out. They could easily walk to a lot of things in the city but the Ubers were also able to stop outside to pick them up too when needed. The breakfast was great with a lot of choice and cooked items too, which the staff lovingly packed for them if they had an early start. The room setup was great. The staff were truly wonderful too. Unfortunately, my mum only mentioned one lady, I guess in the front service team who seemed to be in a bad mood quite often, but she was the anomaly because everybody else was great. And I have to mention how much they appreciated the lovely lady who was cleaning their room every day. But I also need to specifically shout out Tamsyn and Motion from the front desk/guest experience team. They honestly went out of their way to make this stay really special, and I cannot thank them enough. They were so kind, professional, so patient dealing with all my 100 questions, and the best people you want to work with. I truly wish them all the best, along with their team too. I'm really happy with the experience that we had with the Charles Hometel team in Cape Town and I would definitely book again

If you value comfort, hygiene, or basic hospitality standards, avoid Charles Hope Hotel in Cape Town at all costs. The only situation in which you should even consider booking this place is if you are absolutely compelled to stay for one single night, and even that would be generous. Staying beyond one night is a mistake you will regret. At the time of booking, nowhere is it transparently disclosed that fresh towels are provided only once every four days. Four days. For a property charging premium rates, this is unacceptable. Sustainability is important, yes, but it cannot come at the cost of basic hygiene. When guests are paying significant amounts per night, they are entitled to clean towels daily. This is not a luxury expectation, it is a minimum standard across the hospitality industry. The cost cutting does not end there. Guests are given only one bottle of water per day. Again, for the price charged, this is embarrassingly inadequate. It feels less like hospitality and more like rationing. The reception staff is perhaps the most disappointing aspect of the entire experience. They are completely clueless, indifferent, and visibly unconcerned about guest issues. When I approached the reception to raise housekeeping problems, other guests standing nearby joined in with similar complaints, which tells you this is not an isolated experience but a systemic failure. Yet the response was marked by apathy rather than accountability. Several rooms suffer from serious water logging issues. Water accumulates and does not drain properly, creating inconvenience and raising obvious hygiene concerns. This is not a minor oversight, this is basic infrastructure failure. The air conditioning is practically useless. In the so called top category One Bedroom Apartment, there is no AC in the bedroom at all. Let that sink in. The main selling point of paying extra for a larger unit is comfort, and yet the bedroom, where comfort matters most, lacks proper cooling. To make matters worse, the AC controller itself is faulty. Paying extra for a bigger room only adds to the inconvenience rather than improving the stay. Do not be misled into upgrading. The larger rooms are poorly designed and inconvenient, and the lack of functional climate control makes the stay uncomfortable. In all my years of travel, I have genuinely never encountered a reception so inefficient and disengaged. There is a complete absence of professionalism, ownership, or urgency. This property operates on the illusion of premium serviced apartments while delivering substandard basics. Poor transparency, poor maintenance, poor service, and poor guest handling, a disappointing combination. Book only if you have absolutely no alternative and only if it is for one night. Otherwise, save yourself the frustration and choose literally anywhere else.
