Sweet Apple Garden

My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast. Homemade bread and local food were bonuses. Having breakfast with other guests added to the wonderful experience.

The guesthouse is located in a lovely residential neighborhood. It is close to the river walk. There are a couple of restaurants a few blocks away. Clean and safe is what I look for in lodging and Sweet Apple Garden fits that description. I would like to clarify the description in Booking.com for future travelers. First of all, not all rooms have AC nor do all have bathrooms. Hence, it is wise to communicate with them in advance to be sure you have these items. As this is an older home, it may not be a good fit for travelers with mobility issues. The stairs to the second floor are rather steep and high (almost a foot). The stairs to the 3rd floor, which was an attic are normal, but you need to watch your head as the ceiling slopes. I also had to watch my head in my attic room which had a lovely view of the mountains. Also note, that your room is not cleaned or checked daily, so if you need additional towels you need to ask. There is no hairdryer in the room, but I think one can be borrowed from the attendant. Breakfast is nice and you can eat on the terrace. Breakfast is not available until 9am which is a little late for me if you have plans for the day. The bed was very comfortable. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. The attendant does not speak any English, but she is very adept with Google Translate. She had a gentleman who apparently lives there help me find transportation to the airport. Almaty has a cool app similar to Uber (Yandex), but I was unable to get it to accept my telephone number as I had not gotten a SIM card nor had I paid for global access. The description on Booking.com mentions a hot tub, but I did not see one. Anyway, I do recommend this place but thought I would clarify the details in the description on Booking.com to avoid any issues for future travelers. Another plus for me was the diversity of the other guests. My friends and I were the only Americans staying there. The guests that shared my breakfast table were friendly and spoke English.

The room is clean. The toilet is clean as well but the shower area is quite slippery. The breakfast is ok but cold.

Our room is at the second/top floor with steep staircase and without lift in the guest house. We have to carry our big luggage up to the room. The room at the top floor having a sloped wall has cause me knock on it for few times. The staff of the guest house look not that friendly. When we asked for breakfast at 7am, she said she only wake up at 7am, ask us take at 8am. But next morning she suddenly tell us breakfast ready at 7am when we just woke up.
