Blue Gate Cottage

The location was so beautiful and quiet. The cottage was amazing and very clean. We liked everything.

The accommodation was exactly as pictured. The cottage was quiet and serene. Everything you could need was in the cottage, which was good as I did not venture out at night. The hostess was lovely. I did not meet the host. I actually loved my time at the cottage. The Weber BBQ was fantastic for cooking dinner of a night. There were native birds and red dog was a welcome visitor when I was sitting outside. Bed was comfortable. 10/10 for the cottage. All the thoughtful little touches, wine, honey, butter, bread etc were great. Extensive spice rack, cooking utensils. I would definitely recommend the accommodation, it was immaculately clean and well setup.

The road in. I knew I was in the middle of the Chiltern State Forest when I booked but the overgrown track set off every warning light on my Subaru AWD. The last 1.1 kms approx. is pretty ordinary. The cottage is off grid but advertises air conditioning and gas heating, (Powered by a fan). However, you drain the battery of the main house if you use it and it was not encouraged. One day was particularly hot for my stay and you need to be able to use advertised facilities or pay less. There is another entrance to the property that is private and should be considered as access to the cottage, along with a clear run down a paddock parallel to the track that could also be considered. I would not recommend the track to anyone with a relatively new sedan. You are centrally located to Beechworth, Chiltern and Yackandandah which is great but factor in the dirt roads driving. Also factor in a couple of 100 Kangaroos if you are driving back here at dusk.

We enjoyed the charm of the cottage, and the tranquility the countryside offered. The property was modern, and had everything we needed. The back verandah, garden and furnishings were delightfully presented. One of the nicer places we have stayed.

Some of the roads to the property are not easy to access and you need to drive slowly and with care, if you have a 2 wheel drive, to avoid damage to your car. Not easy to drive out if you have forgotten something.
