Pleasant enough, but with hidden costs

The house is large, and the living room in particular offers plenty of space. Everything is there, except for bed linen! The kitchen has everything you need (except a good frying pan). Not just cuttlery, china and pans, but also sugar, salt, pepper, herbs, you name it. But then again, what would you do with 25 forks and 31 knives in a six-person cottage? The location is okay, close to the centre of Aabenraa. It is quiet and peaceful.

The interior could do with an upgrade to the 21st century; the overall look is terribly old-fashioned. The kitchen would look good in a museum. The dead animals on the wall are a matter of taste. The garden also needs attention. The house was reasonably clean, but it smelled musty when we arrived and the rug in the living room was so full of dust and sand that I suspect I was the first person in a long time to vacuum it. In one bathroom, a sewer smell comes up as soon as you turn on the shower. There is also no power socket for your hairdryer. As a previous review said, you have to bring your own bed linen. That should be stated in the advertisement on Booking. There is no information about the television and Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi password on the Wi-Fi device is incorrect, so the promised free Wi-Fi is useless. The television has 100 channels, 95 of which are German, and if you search long enough, you will also find BBC1 and TV5-France. Also no info on if and when you should put out the wheely bins, which we would have been happy to do.. What really took the biscuit for me was the fact they make you believe the price on Booking is all-inn, when it isn't. Two days before our arrival I received an email saying 'Ooh, by the way, you will be charged for the water and electricity you use, we'll send you a bill after you've left.' This information is neither in the ad on Booking nor in the one on Novasol, which is the agency that rents it out. That's a serious omission of essential info, hence the five for the final score, which otherwise would have been a seven.

A truly lovely spacious homely house in a beautiful quiet location, perfect for myself and daughter

Lots of space inside and outside. Nearly everything that was required including some handy extras not always there in a self catering place, such as cling film and foil in the kitchen (although not required by me) and found needles and thread which came in very handy for some last moment adjustments to an outfit. We didn’t have children, but the house had plenty of toys and games which was lovely and I imagine would be much appreciated for guests with children. Very homely altogether. Brilliant having an air fryer. The adjustable mattress/bed was amazing…I might now have to get one as I probably had the best nights sleeps ever. Quiet location within a healthy walking distance to the beautiful town of Aabenraa.

When we arrived, it was quite smelly …from the bathroom, so that was concerning. However once the toilet had been flushed and the shower used and a window opened it was fine for the rest of the stay. Also on arrival we found that there was no bed linen, which for me, was the first time in a self catering holiday house. This was first time booking outwith UK, and maybe the norm in Denmark. This could have been mentioned clearly in the main description on Booking.com, rather than only on the last line on linked Novosol information (which I have to admit hadn’t read thoroughly- lesson learnt) Had to go and buy bed linen, thankfully a really good shop in town was full of plenty of affordable items. While there’s always different ideas about art and decoration in a home, the numerous mounted animal skulls were a bit creepy!

Gemütlich aber nicht sehr sauber

Soweit war es ganz gemütlich und hübsch eingerichtet.

Die Abflüsse habe sehr unangenehm muffig gerochen. Es standen unabgewaschene Schalen im Schrank in denen es geschimmelt hat. In einem Zimmer wurde der Fußboden nicht gereinigt außerdem waren das Bett und das Sofa voller Hundehaare. Im Garten lebt ein Tier wir haben es nicht gesehen ,nur das es Löcher gräbt.

Zu teuer für das, was geboten wird.

Für das ganze Anwesen existieren nur zwei Schlüssel: für die Hintertür und den Keller. Der Vordereingag ist deshalb nicht nutzbar, weil man ihn von innen verriegeln muss. Selbst für die beiden Bäder/Toiletten gibt es keine Schlüssel. Das ganze Haus hängt voller Tierschädel - gerade für kleine Kinder ist das SEHR gruselig. Das Doppelbett im Erdgeschoss war nicht nutztbar: total schmutzige Auflage und ein übler Gestank.
