BANK House Studio M 102 - GRIWA RENT

Well located near the west station which we thought was the better part of Interlaken. We arrived from the east but the bus was easy and only one stop. In fact we could probably have stayed on the train and it would have gone to the west station but we did not realise at the time. A very nice old building converted to appartments. Stone staircase and original bank vault and safe deposit boxes in the basement. Free washing machines downstairs for the building which worked well. The aircon was part of the renovation and worked well. Windows shuttered which made it dark and easy to sleep. Glazing plus shutters kept out street noise. Silvia in the office was helpful as the instructions for access and leaving baggage were unclear to us.

Three days before arriving there is a request to “checkin”. All details are pre-filled because the property has them from booking dot com. The “checkin” was a request to sign off your acceptance of a list of misdemeanours and the fines that the property owners would levy on you, if, at their discretion, you had transgressed. This was after the cancellation period for the room. This was after the property had taken 100% of the funds for the stay. The quantum of fines were not inconsequential . No copy was provided to us but, if I recall correctly, losing a key was CHF700, A$ 1,200. The other fines all seemed to be in the quantum of A$’000s. If the property wishes to do this I felt they should disclose it as special terms and conditions on the booking dot com site with confirmation of acceptance at that time. I was left with the understanding that if I did not sign they will not provide you access to the property. Presumably that would result in 100% loss of monies paid because just 3 days before arrival we are way beyond the free cancellation period. I felt this was an unfair contract term. Perhaps unenforceable but you don’t want to even contemplate that situation in a multi jurisdictional contract. The onerous nature of the conditions, the timing of disclosure and the insistence on sign off felt deceptive to me This tainted my view of the property and its manager. Arrival and departure times are strictly 16:00 and 10:00. This is because the property manager seeks to moneterise the 6 hour interval. CHF 50 for 2 hours . CHF 100 for 4 hours. There is free baggage storage in the basement which is a good facility that we used. I have no problem with the property doing this. I felt that it should be disclosed at the time of booking. The kitchen was poorly designed. The bench space stops 1500mm short of where it could extend. The space where it could extend is dead unused space.

Skulle bli bättre om disken är lite större. Extra adaptor till El uttag för gester som bor utomlands. Det var inte lätt att använda det.

Very central location. Close and easy to walk to trains, buses, shops and restaurants.

Was not informed, that there was a renovation on the facade outside the building just under my windows. It would have been nice if management mentioned to me.

they have coffee machine but no coffee pods are provided. temperature of the room is set and cannot be adjusted.
