This rental was more of an apartment than a hotel, which was nice. The space was large and suite-like, with a small but welcome kitchenette, newer flooring, an upgraded bathroom, and an ocean view—though it had been photographed in such a way as to omit the neglected empty lot directly below our patio. That didn’t ruin the stay, but it did change the feel of the view. Still, the unit was comfortable and attractive. The large smart TV had a crisp picture, making movie nights especially enjoyable after braving Ensenada’s hectic traffic. Nice to unwind on the comfy sofa or on the open air patio and sip a cocktail and listen to the ocean waves. The bedroom is especially lovely with tons of storage, restful décor, a high quality platform bed with a great mattress and the soft, sweetly scented bedding. A pure delight. The freestanding fan was a nice addition and kept the room temperature comfortable. Also nice was that it was on a timer and could shut itself off. It also muffled the slight traffic noise.

There were a few setbacks. Finding the unit was a challenge—the address listed was actually about a mile north of the actual location, and the directions didn’t mention the name of the community, any landmarks, or the most obvious feature: a large bright purple wall and black iron gate that surround the property. We did several miles of back and forth trying to locate it. The unit itself was on the second floor, which proved difficult for me due to severely arthritic knees and back, and my husband’s hernia meant I singlehandedly made multiple treks up and down the stairs with our belongings and these was no handrail to assist in safely navigating. I had expected a ground-floor unit, but that was my misunderstanding, not the host’s fault. However, it should be mentioned in the ad it's not accessible for the handicapped or disabled. On the first night, I discovered the rain shower-head was broken, and it flooding the bathroom. The host responded promptly, sending a very pleasant maintenance gentleman who had it fixed within minutes. Unfortunately, the shower drain was backed up, leaving us standing in water during every shower. The kitchen sink didn’t drain at all, which meant we couldn’t wash our dishes. We called for maintenance again for the shower and sink drainage issues, but no one ever came, so for two days the kitchen was essentially unusable and showers short to keep water contained in the stall. Would I stay here again? Probably not. While there were positive aspects—comfortable bed, spacious layout, and some thoughtful upgrades—the location issues, maintenance problems, difficult second floor access, lack of follow-up from the host, etc., outweighed the conveniences.
