Mookgae Seowon Manhuejeong

The property is an old Korean Hanok, a traditional family house. As a cultural experience it was a beautiful, peaceful place to stay. The property has two small buildings, the Sarangbang, and the Ipgyodang. The Sarangbang is a single room with floor beds, similar to tatami beds in Japan. The Ipgyodang is a larger building with two rooms separated by a large open area (exposed on one side to the yard), also with floor beds. The floors are heated and the rooms themselves are comfortable, spacious, and clean. The Ipgyodang is excellent for families or groups up to 8 people, and the Sarangbang is good for a single family up to 4 people. The property has a shared bathroom with showers across the yard, and we were the only group at the property so there were no issues. There is a big open yard with traditional games and a pavilion where we could eat and look out over the river. It truly is a peaceful place to stay, listening to the wind and trees. During the day, there is a cafe, and since the property is a cultural asset, it is open to the public. However, Koreans are highly respectful and did not bother us after the property closed at 5pm, and we had no issues when other visitors arrived at 9am. This setup is quite common for Korean Hanok pensions, so other traditional properties throughout the country experience the same thing. Korea is a fantastic country, and I would not worry about this aspect. I highly recommend this property 10/10 and we would stay here again.
