About this bed and breakfast

The Austin-Lake home was originally built in 1837 with Lucy Lake, a tailoress plying her trade as Hudson's local tailoress/seamstress for the duration of 34 years until her passing in 1877. Mrs. Lake is proudly noted as the sole owner of 230 North Main Street. Lucy's mother, Lucinda Hurn Markillie also lived with her daughter until her passing in 1850. Lucinda is known for an existing journal she wrote while immigrating from Lincolnshire England in 1833 aboard the well known fast sailing ship - The Westmoreland. The original historically significant journal much studied by scholars for its many insights into early 1800's immigration is beautifully written and meticulously preserved. The leather bound journal today rests in the Hudson Library Historical Archives. The charming Austin-Lake home has housed many historically important residents along its journey in Hudson, Ohio. One of the most notable includes Percy Dresser, Hudson's Clock Master and sole owner of Lucy's House for over 30 years from 1922-1955. As an influential member of the community, Percy Dresser was a staple of Hudson and lived in Lucy's House while serving as Night Watchman, Constable of the Township, Marshall, and Street Commissioner aside from Custodian of the Clock. The Greek Revival farmhouse remains true to its original build with its facade, charming covered front porch and fenced red brick courtyard. The home is lovely inside and out, beautifully preserved and restored. The essence of a bygone era with all its charm and character is proudly on display in Hudson’s prominent downtown historic district. Lucy’s House is a treasure beyond its historical significance. The character of the early Hudsonites who courageously journeyed from far and wide to make Hudson, Ohio their home is best felt on Main Street with its many charming shops and restaurants. Walking distance to shops and restaurants, Western Reserve Academy, Hudson Library, grocery store and so much more. Only 2 blocks away from Hudson's Clocktower; when walking by, don't miss the clock tower's three water sources: one constructed for animals, one for small pets, and one for Hudson locals. Just 5 miles from Cuyahoga Valley National Park and super easy access to Akron/Cleveland Connectors. Welcome to Lucy's House -where history meets Art!

What an amazing and special stay! Property is unique and beautiful from the decor, artwork, furniture, bedding, plants, patio, etc! Every little detail was exceptional! It’s centered in the middle of Hudson which provided great restaurants and shops, all extremely walkable. Owner was lovely to work with, and added so many wonderful extras (coffees, snacks, water, chocolates, umbrellas, soaps, etc., etc.). You couldn’t want a more perfect place to call “home” for your getaway! We are golfers, so we were able to play numerous nearby courses. We will definitely return!

Lucy’s House is a beautiful gem based in the heart of Hudson. My husband and I travelled from the UK and arrived late at night, we were welcomed and given a tour of the house and its facilities. The house is full of history and charm with three floors of character perfect for three couples or a family to enjoy their own bedroom , bathroom and coffee station and dining area. The house is comfortable, warming and everything is done to perfection. The beds are absolutely beautifully made and so comfortable, the house is immaculate.Lots of little touches like fresh muffins on arrival, treats and refreshments, all the little touches with chocolates and water at the side of each bed , little soaps and beautiful room sprays and the softest fluffiest towels made shower time special, our time there was perfect .. Thank you

Lucy's House is wonderfully inviting. The property has several outside seating area, great landscaping, and the best location possible for walking into town for coffee, the farmer's market, or even the grocery store. Further, the host worked hard to make sure we had everything we might need, including snacks. A great experience from beginning to end.

Absolutely Perfect – A Thoughtfully Designed RetreatStaying at Lucy’s House was truly an honor. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that every detail had been thoughtfully planned. Lucy's House didn’t miss a thing—every amenity, every cozy touch, every convenience was already in place before we even realized we needed it.The home was immaculately clean, beautifully decorated with artistic details, and felt welcoming in a way that’s hard to describe. Whether it was the extra soft blankets and bed, the perfectly stocked coffee and snacks, the ambient lighting, the beautiful gardens and flowers surrounding the home, or the little local recommendations left for guest to read —Lucy's House clearly put so much care into creating a space that feels both luxurious and comforting. It’s rare to stay somewhere that feels so well-prepared and so personal. We felt incredibly cared for, and it made our entire experience that much more memorable!!Thank you for your kindness, your attention to detail, and for creating such a special place. It was genuinely an honor to stay in your home!! We cannot wait to come back!! Sincerely, The Repphun Family
