About this cottage rental
We converted this historic thatched-roof house in Poppenbüll—which many years ago was a farmhouse used for sheep farming—into a family home for our family, which has grown from 6 to 14 members.
With 240 m² of living space, including 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, it offers plenty of room for your dream vacation or seminar.
When designing the house, it was important to us to create space for both togetherness and privacy. The large living-dining area, with its open fireplace (the heart of the house), provides a space for gathering.
A fully equipped kitchen and a large collection of games are available to you as guests.
Thatched-Roof House in Poppenbüll:
The large living-dining area, featuring an open fireplace, a long dining table that seats 14 people, and an adjacent, sheltered south-facing terrace, is the heart of the house and offers plenty of space for relaxed get-togethers. On the terrace, you’ll also find a grill, seating, and a parasol so you can enjoy a meal or the nighttime starry sky while lounging on the terrace.
In the kitchen, you’ll find everything you need to whip up your own meals, from a fully automatic coffee machine to an asparagus pot. Firewood for the fireplace is provided, and you’ll also find board games in the china cabinet.
Of the 6 bedrooms, 5 are located on the first floor of the house. One of the first-floor rooms spans two floors, with a loft room upstairs and a pull-out sofa bed downstairs. This room is often used by families with small children. The study downstairs can be converted into a comfortable bedroom with a view of the 100-year-old ash tree if needed. There are 3 bathrooms in the house, 2 of which are on the first floor. A large wellness bath with a whirlpool, sauna, and rain shower—plus a cold-water sauna shower—as well as workout equipment for fitness enthusiasts is located downstairs. The wellness area has a separate exit—perhaps for a snow bath in winter after a sauna session—and a separate restroom on the first floor.
On-site costs: Parking spaces available; non-smoking property; dogs are welcome (€10/day). Electricity, final cleaning, bed linens, and towels are included in the price—all you really need to do is arrive. Fresh rolls can be delivered directly to the house via a delivery service upon request. A washing machine, dryer, and cordless vacuum cleaner are available in the utility room downstairs (to the left behind the stairs). The fruit bushes behind the shed and the fruit trees along the street belong to the house and provide part of the harvest from which I make jam that I sell at Hamburg’s weekly markets. If you’re here during harvest season, feel free to take some for your personal use. A small sample of the jam awaits you during your visit.
