GITE LES GOELANDS MAISON A 300m DE LA MER

Le gîte est très bien situé. Nous avons le soleil le matin pour déjeuner d'un côté de la maison et le soleil le soir de l'autre côté. Il est possible d'accéder aux plages à pied.

Le calme et la proximité de la plage

The house was very clean. The kitchen had good, useful equipment to cook a meal. There was a pretty, secluded garden surrounded by a hedge in front of the property which was safe for dogs/children. Although the beds had metal frame bases, the 'memory foam' mattresses were comfortable. There were adequate bedside lights.

There was NO mention in the property details that the bathroom and WC were on the ground floor. The bedrooms were on the first floor with a steep flight of stairs, not easily negotiable in the dark in the middle of the night. As pensioners aged 84 and 78, it was a shock to discover the layout of the house when we first arrived. There is only one proper bedroom. the second 'room' was actually behind a curtained area at the top of the stairs, with little privacy. Our hostess did not speak English and was relieved that we spoke French. After seeing the pretty photos of the property on the internet, the location was disappointing. Although the front garden was attractive, 100m away lay a busy and noisy main road. The small back terrace outside double doors off the living room looked out over abandoned farm buildings and an industrial unit beyond. The few metres in front of the paved area at the back had been mown but beyond it was dune scrub fenced with sheep wire. Although the living room had a comfortable sofa and chair, there wasn't good lighting to read by in the evening. The wifi was unreliable over the weekend and there was no DVD player or board games to entertain on wet days. Fortunately, we had noted that on arrival our hostess would require a large deposit in Euros, returnable at the end of our stay. We had not experienced the practice in the UK. With no French bank account, it left us with a fistful of Euros in cash which we could not use before coming home.
