Villa Bor a Mar - Holiday homes

Tess was waiting for us with transport at Balatero Port and took all five of us to Villa Bor a Mar. Our luggage was loaded into a separate Tuk Tuk driven by Norman who followed Tess who was in the Battery powered golf buggy. We met Gerrit, the co-host and settled into our respective rooms. My son, daughter-in-law, 2 1/2 years old grandson, and 8 months old granddaughter were assisted by Tess to arrange the beds for their stay. The kitchen/dining area was ideally situated upstairs and the seating area outside the kitchen had spectacular views across the bay. We were able to "self-cater" and my son rented a Burgman motorbike, similar to the one he had at home in Bongabong Oriental Mindoro, and was able to go shopping in Sabang for our groceries whilst Granddad looked after one or both children. We also hired the host's Electric Golf Buggy a couple of times to explore Puerto Galera and White Beach. We visited Kuserina Thai Restaurant, near Balatero Port where the Tom Yum Goong was the best that I have tasted outside of Thailand. The staff at the restaurant were very welcoming and it an ideal location to have lunch or dinner. Beware: Kuserina is NOT open on Monday's, Tuesday's, or Wednesdays. We found this out the hard way by visiting on a Wednesday to find that they were closed so we went to White Beach, and had lunch there. That was also very good. We stayed at Villa Bor a Mar for 22 days and at the end of our visit, both Tess and Gerrit took us and our luggage to Balatero Port for our ferry to Batangas Port. All in all, a very relaxing holiday. Many thanks to our hosts Tess and Gerrit, they were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

I didn't come prepared enough for the time we spent there as I finished my cryptic crossword book in less than 10 days. The villa, whilst relaxing, is a bit too isolated for an old man like me who is not as fit as I used to be, so long walks were not on my agenda, not that there was a lot to see or do in the area. I am used to driving an air-condition car so travelling in the Golf Buggy, on narrow roads with several "hold-ups" because of single file traffic due to roadworks, was not the greatest experience. All the fumes from the motorbikes and Tuk Tuks, which constituted the vast majority of the traffic, took a bit of getting used to.
