This place should not be allowed to call itself a hostel. It is the owner’s personal home, run like a small kingdom where he is the master, unpaid volunteers are his servants, and paying guests are expected to quietly obey his rules.
The owner is extremely greedy and cuts costs everywhere — hot water is limited to only a few hours per day, sleep is impossible because cleaning starts at 8–9 AM despite a 10 AM checkout, and the entire house runs strictly on his personal routine (bed at 22:00, wake-up at 7:00). This is not shared accommodation — it is forced compliance.
The most disturbing thing I witnessed: a volunteer who had been providing free labor was kicked out with only ONE DAY’S NOTICE for using her phone during a shift. After working for free to enrich the owner, she was discarded immediately, without dignity, security, or care — thrown away like she was nothing. Watching this happen was shocking and deeply upsetting.
Staying here means supporting exploitation, abuse of power, and mistreatment of local people by a wealthy foreign owner. I left angry and ashamed to have stayed even one night. Avoid this place at all costs.

The owner treats this place as his kingdom. Volunteers are unpaid, controlled, and treated like servants, while guests are expected to follow his strange house rules because they are “living in his home.”
One volunteer was expelled with 24 hours’ notice for a minor rule violation (phone use), after giving free labor to enrich the owner. She was thrown out coldly and without compassion. I felt ashamed to be a guest here and left angry.

This place runs entirely on the owner’s personal routine and greed. Hot water is limited to around 5 hours per day to save money. Cleaning starts at 8–9 AM, even though checkout is at 10, meaning guests cannot sleep in.
What shocked me most was seeing a volunteer kicked out with one day’s notice for using her phone on shift. After all her unpaid work, she was treated like she meant nothing. This is not hospitality — it’s abuse of power.

The owner lives on site and behaves like this hostel is his private home. Volunteers are treated like domestic workers and guests are expected to accept his authority. Volunteers are forbidden from using phones during shifts, given curfews, and tightly controlled.
One volunteer was terminated and told to leave within 24 hours simply for using her phone while working — after providing free labor for the owner. She was thrown out without dignity, as if she were disposable. Supporting this place means supporting exploitation and cruelty.

This is not a hostel — it is the owner’s personal house where everyone must obey his rules. He is extremely greedy and saves money in every possible way, including limiting hot water to only a few hours per day.
The entire place runs on unpaid volunteers who are called “employees” while receiving no salary. During my stay, one volunteer was kicked out with only one day’s notice because she used her phone during a shift. After weeks of free labor that enriched the owner, she was discarded immediately, without respect or security. Watching this happen was disgusting.

Nothing to not like, it would be nice for the beds in dorms to be more private with a curtain and to have its own power outlet

Everything was absolutely perfect. From the moment I arrived, I felt genuinely welcome, especially as part of the LGBTQ+ community — the inclusiveness and respect shown by the staff made a real difference. The location is ideal, safe, close to everything and very convenient for getting around. The hostel was spotless, with excellent attention to cleanliness throughout the entire stay. Overall, an amazing experience from start to finish. I would 100% recommend this hostel to everyone and would happily stay here again. Lots of love to the whole Soul Fam _ Chase, Nkneka, Oli, Smiles and Devine. Thank you for everything and for making my stay in Cape Town just unforgettable.
Nothing, everything was just PERFECT!

From the moment I stepped into Soul Fam, I felt it, a warmth that instantly made me feel seen, safe, and welcome. This isn’t just a hostel, it’s a space filled with connection, openness, and heart. The evening events were something I truly cherished, they created moments where strangers became friends and where everyone felt included.
Soul Fam feels like a community that accepts you exactly as you are, loves you openly, and gives you the freedom to just be.
It left a mark on me in the most beautiful way.
Chase carries such a calm, kind presence, and Nneka and Smilez, I absolutely adore them. They brought so much light, joy, and comfort into the space. Their warmth, encouragement, and genuine care made me feel valued and uplifted. The entire team embodies, kindness, connection, and support.
The hostel is always clean, thoughtfully cared for, and perfectly located, close to everything you need.
I would recommend Soul Fam Hostel to anyone searching for more than just a bed for the night. This place stays with you.
It truly lives up to its name, Soul Fam 🤍
I didn't like that I had to leave 😭

very friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, cute garden and general kitchen/living room common area, they put a lot of effort into socially connecting the guests, really appreciated finding an lgbtq friendly hostel (and it was not just a 'title' they did really live up to it)
+ one suggestion: in my room there were no sockets to charge your phone next to the bed, if this existed it would - in my opinion - be a huge upgrade for the room

Very attractive property in a great location not far from the V & A Waterfront. Very friendly owner. Very comfy beds & good shower.
Nothing to dislike. Just a small suggestion that a tall mirror in the bedroom would have been useful.

Good location, comfy bed, attractive property, use of a kitchen to cook meals, very friendly owner, small pool, great shower.
Nothing to dislike. Just a little suggestion… a long mirror in the bedroom would be very useful. The small mirror in the bathroom is a little high for small ladies.

Good location, fair price, and comfortable mattress. There are also nice evening activities for guests, which make the atmosphere friendly and social.
The overall experience was disappointing. We booked a private room to safely leave our belongings locked while running a marathon, but when we came back at 9 a.m. (check-out was at 10), someone had already entered the room and removed the bedding and towels “because they thought we had left.” That’s completely unacceptable.
Also, the water pressure in the morning was unstable — you either get freezing or boiling water because the cold water keeps cutting off. The bathroom windows face nearby houses but have no curtains. And there wasn’t even a trash bin in the room.

Very welcoming.
No small dustbin in the bathroom to throw away ladies’ sanitary pads or tampons.

My heartfelt thanks to the team of Soul Fam Hostel for creating such a warm, welcoming, and safe haven for travelers in the very heart of Cape Town. I adored absolutely everything: the extraordinarily beautiful building in the Green Point area, the impeccable cleanliness, the availability of every comfort one could need, the cozy beds that guaranteed a peaceful rest, and the fast, reliable Wi-Fi.
A special thank you must go to your dream team, whose thoughtful recommendations made my journey truly unforgettable. Though my stay was brief - just 4 nights - it was long enough to meet some incredible and interesting people, and I am certain these new friendships will continue long after my trip.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will most certainly be returning to your wonderful home ❤️❤️❤️

The atmosphere and the energy of the people really made this place a welcome home during my Stay in Cape Town. After having spent 16 hours in the Intercape bus, it was very nice to have a very warm place and group of people to hang out with.
There are activities planned every day and I had the privilege of being able to attend a Yoga session at a very fancy place, thanks to a collaboration with the hostel. Furthermore, the location of this hostel is just fantastic, as it's a 25 min. walk to the CBD & Central Station, as well as closely connected to the Boulevard stretching from Green Point to Sea Point.
There's also a possibility to have your laundry done, and the crew really did an amazing job & delevired a perfect wash.
Also, if you're as a Queer or Femme Solotraveller looking for a place to low-key Connect with some kind minds & have some SA experiences, this place has a lot to offer.
The interior of the place is very minimalistic, maybe just a little bit too minimalistic for me personally. Then again, the hostel has only been launched a few months ago, and I feel there's still a small learning curve, e.g. the possibility to maybe introduce a little library or book exchange.
Know that if you're staying for multiple days, it might be worth the effort to stock up on some basic cooking supplies, as there is not really a 'common base' (salt, pepper, cooking oil) present. I bought a little bit to much but was happy to leave it to the crew.

Localização, as atividades realizadas no hostel.
