This is exploitation, not hospitality
N/A
This place should not be allowed to call itself a hostel. It is the owner’s personal home, run like a small kingdom where he is the master, unpaid volunteers are his servants, and paying guests are expected to quietly obey his rules. The owner is extremely greedy and cuts costs everywhere — hot water is limited to only a few hours per day, sleep is impossible because cleaning starts at 8–9 AM despite a 10 AM checkout, and the entire house runs strictly on his personal routine (bed at 22:00, wake-up at 7:00). This is not shared accommodation — it is forced compliance. The most disturbing thing I witnessed: a volunteer who had been providing free labor was kicked out with only ONE DAY’S NOTICE for using her phone during a shift. After working for free to enrich the owner, she was discarded immediately, without dignity, security, or care — thrown away like she was nothing. Watching this happen was shocking and deeply upsetting. Staying here means supporting exploitation, abuse of power, and mistreatment of local people by a wealthy foreign owner. I left angry and ashamed to have stayed even one night. Avoid this place at all costs.

A lord, his house, and his servants
N/A
The owner treats this place as his kingdom. Volunteers are unpaid, controlled, and treated like servants, while guests are expected to follow his strange house rules because they are “living in his home.” One volunteer was expelled with 24 hours’ notice for a minor rule violation (phone use), after giving free labor to enrich the owner. She was thrown out coldly and without compassion. I felt ashamed to be a guest here and left angry.

No hot water, no sleep, no humanity
N/A
This place runs entirely on the owner’s personal routine and greed. Hot water is limited to around 5 hours per day to save money. Cleaning starts at 8–9 AM, even though checkout is at 10, meaning guests cannot sleep in. What shocked me most was seeing a volunteer kicked out with one day’s notice for using her phone on shift. After all her unpaid work, she was treated like she meant nothing. This is not hospitality — it’s abuse of power.

Exploitation and humiliation of volunteers
N/A
The owner lives on site and behaves like this hostel is his private home. Volunteers are treated like domestic workers and guests are expected to accept his authority. Volunteers are forbidden from using phones during shifts, given curfews, and tightly controlled. One volunteer was terminated and told to leave within 24 hours simply for using her phone while working — after providing free labor for the owner. She was thrown out without dignity, as if she were disposable. Supporting this place means supporting exploitation and cruelty.

Greed, control, and bad treatment of local, South African volunteers by American "Master".
N/A
This is not a hostel — it is the owner’s personal house where everyone must obey his rules. He is extremely greedy and saves money in every possible way, including limiting hot water to only a few hours per day. The entire place runs on unpaid volunteers who are called “employees” while receiving no salary. During my stay, one volunteer was kicked out with only one day’s notice because she used her phone during a shift. After weeks of free labor that enriched the owner, she was discarded immediately, without respect or security. Watching this happen was disgusting.

Feels like home
The staff were fantastic and made you feel at home. The space feels like a home and is very comfortable. The location is perfect
Nothing to not like, it would be nice for the beds in dorms to be more private with a curtain and to have its own power outlet
