Excellent location, large enough house for all my extended family to stay together.(Muslef and hubby; one daughter and husband; one daughter and partner; one son and wife with their 8 year old foster son. We loved that with so many people we all had en-suite bathrooms- made a busy household and schedule much easier to manage. The rooms were all lovely, and spacious. Loved the room with children’s bunks adjoining- although our son and his wife ended up in the other room on the top floor rather than sharing with their 8 year old as he wanted a shower of his own! The beds were comfortable and the living room area was ample for a big group with space to spread out in two areas if wanted, but also enough room for all of us to watch TV together if we wanted to.
The house had everything we needed and was mostly well equipped. (We celebrated a birthday and a wedding anniversary whilst there and with the foresight to take our own cake tins with us we did find all the other equipment we needed to bake cakes for the occasions.)
We all loved the added extra treat of having the hot tub.
The location is great: locally near to beach, town and facilities in Filey, but also a great ‘jumping off’ spot for other nearby towns and attractions. We visited, Scarborough, Whitby and York to name a few. Filey was a lovely pretty town with great beaches, we also found the nearby park which had great facilities, and loved walking out to the Filey Brigg at low tide. Beach was great for swimming, kids to play, rock-pooling and we even did some fossil hunting!
There were a couple of areas that could have been cleaner. We had to clean off the barbecue grate as it was a little rusty (although not dirty) possibly this was just that it is always outdoors- but maybe a suggestion that cleaning team could check this before someone checks in. We did give it a good clean after we had barbecued. The washing machines also could do with a good clean. We cleaned the drawers of both, but did only use one, after wiping around the seals also- the other one definitely needs a proper clean. However the washers and dryer were a plus in terms of being able to pack lighter knowing we could do washing, and being able to wash beach items etc - we were glad of this option.
The top floor double room had a slightly damaged shower door that was a bit tricky to open. The first floor front bay window room had a shower that dripped- nothing that spoiled our holiday or our enjoyment of the house but small issues that may need attention.
We felt it might be useful for the keys to be labelled so that we knew which were for which doors instead of trying every key in every lock! We couldn’t find a key that fitted the double doors out to the barbecue/yard - only one for the back entrance- this wasn’t really a problem, but would have been nice to use it when barbecuing and putting food in and out onto the table etc.
The house parking was trickier than we had imagined - we could get 2 cars on the space although one of our families vehicles is a very small car. However the parking bollards made it tricky to get on and off the safe, particularly when you were the second car parking, and for one of our cars the bollard was too high for the underside of the car. We had 3 cars with us but ended up parking only one on the space after the first couple of days as it was easier. It was however pretty easy to find nearby on street parking pretty close to the house so even with 2 of us parking on the street we didn’t have any issues.
