Checkmate

We recently stayed at "Checkmate" for two nights with my family of 5 including an infant. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'd rate it 4 out of 5 stars. Property and Interior (5/5): The interior was modern, stylish, and spotless. We stayed in a 2BHK that was top-notch, with all the necessary amenities, a comfortable living room, and a great dining area. It was foggy when we were there but the view was spectacular. The have a really nice deck and a common sitting area. Staff (5/5): The staff was incredibly polite, helpful, and kind. They went out of their way to assist us whenever we needed anything. Special Shoutout to Bhoomi for the birthday decoration on such a short notice. And to Arjun for being so helpful and kind to us. Location (3/5): The location was a bit of a mixed bag. It's about 10-15 minutes past Mall Road, and during peak season, the drive could take up to 25 minutes. It's also near the Dalai Hills, which is beautiful, but the street near the property often got congested with tourist parking, which made it tricky to get in and out. The staff was very helpful in managing this, but it's something to be aware of. I think, the staff should notify visitors in advance about the situation so that they are not forced by those drivers to take a U-Turn (someone tried to force us into taking a u-turn and go back for parking). Breakfast (2/5): The breakfast was average and didn't quite match the otherwise high standards of the property. There were limited options, and the quality could be improved, especially given the price point. Overall, we had a lovely stay and enjoyed the beautiful views and the comfortable accommodations!

We stayed at checkmate for a much-awaited family holiday, and every moment here felt like a breath of fresh air. Nestled amidst the majestic mountains, the location itself is stunning — peaceful, quiet, and away from the bustle of the main market, making it a perfect retreat to truly slow down. The apartment was incredibly well-maintained, clean, and thoughtfully designed. From the cozy bedrooms to the well-equipped little kitchen and a warm living space — everything felt like home, only with a more luxurious touch. What made it even more special were the breathtaking views right from our room. Watching the sunset in silence, with family by my side, felt like one of those rare, unforgettable moments. The team at checkmate was equally wonderful — polite, warm, and always ready to help. The breakfast was simple yet delicious, and everything was served with care. There was a sense of peace in the air, and that’s exactly what we were looking for. This wasn’t just a stay — it was an experience that gave us rest, connection, and so much joy. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a clean, quiet, and scenic escape in Mussoorie. Would love to come back!

The Checkmate offers breathtaking views of the majestic mountains. We were particularly impressed with the panoramic balcony view that provided a mesmerizing sunrise each morning. The rooms were comfortable, modern and well-maintained, and fully equipped kitchen. The staff (Arjun & Amar) were incredibly friendly and helpful, ensuring our stay was smooth and enjoyable. We also enjoyed the morning breakfast in bed, the food was delicious, however, you have to order dinner or lunch well in advance as they cook fresh from scratch. While we did experience some minor parking challenges due to the narrow and steep street but the friendly staff was able to help during our stay, the overall experience was excellent. We would highly recommend Checkmate to other travellers seeking a memorable Mussoorie experience.
