Region: Devon, with its quiet country lanes, patchwork of lush green fields and sleepy villages is not to be missed. Stately home lovers will be spoiled and why not finish with a scrumptious Devonshire cream tea?

Town: Sourton Down is a small hamlet resting on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. There is a Shell garage which serves takeaway food and sells essentials, there is also the The Pump & Pedal pub and a bike hire shop. The nearby town of Okehampton is home to the ruins of a medieval castle which offers tours, walking paths & picnic spots with gorgeous flowers, as well as the Museum of Dartmoor Life which is set in a quaint 19th century mill. There is also a golf club, a train station and ample shops, bars and eateries which make for a great day out. Nearby Meldon offers a fascinating quarry, viaduct and reservoir and good paths up to Yes Tor. Sourton Down offers easy access to the Black-a-Tor hiking area, and being based between two A-roads, there is also great access to the rest of Devon via car. Also worth the visit is the Saxton town of Lydford, which has lots of history; from ruins of an English Heritage castle to the National Trust Lydford Gorge which offers woodlands trails and a waterfall.
