The property is located very close to the subway and many shops, parks and restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was. Despite being in the city, the noise levels were relatively low.
The hosts were very hospitable but also respectful of my privacy. The building itself and the surrounding area has a lot of history as well. I hope to return in the future when I have more time to explore the surrounding areas.
There is also very cute husky dog as a bonus 🙂.

First off, this is not a scam - you just have to ask for the code for the key box before check in. Great location in the East Village. This is the first room up the steps. Everything is clean, and the shared kitchen and bathroom are nice.
Room is small, and the bed mattress is not good. You have to padlock the door. This is an old building, and the heater pipes clank late at night.
Outside, there’s a sign that says one of the rooms is hazardous. But the sign is not for this room. There are other residents happily living on the floor.

Somewhat cheap price although still a bit too much.
The “vacant” and basically eviction notices on the front door upon arrival, coupled with delayed communication from the host and defective door buzzers made it all look super sketchy and like a scam from the get go. Also - I did NOT understand that it was a room in someone’s existing apartment- “provided” toiletries were just the products they were already using - verryyyy old, not well maintained property - no dedicated towels as promised so used what I think were ones someone else was using - didn’t know for sure whether anyone else was coming or going so didn’t feel comfortable.
