Silver Screen: terraced Silver Lake garden, fire pit, arbor dining, and two living rooms, a short walk to the reservoir, coffee, and Whole Foods.
Silver Screen sits on a quiet residential street in Silver Lake, a few minutes on foot from the reservoir, but most guests will tell you the real draw is out back. The garden steps down the hillside in terraced levels, past a lawn, a swing, and lounge corners tucked into the greenery, to a long dining table set beneath a grape arbor at the very bottom. It feels private in a way that's rare this close to the center of LA.
Evenings tend to start around the propane fire pit and end at the arbor table. Fire up the BBQ, set out dinner for the whole group, and let the kids trade turns on the swing while someone starts a cornhole rivalry on the lawn. Guests have hosted friends for dinner out here, taken pre-wedding photos in the garden, and spent slow mornings with coffee in hand. From the upstairs balcony, you can take in the whole yard at once.
Inside, the home is bright and modern, with plenty of natural light and a layout that gives everyone room. The main living room has a plush sofa and TV for movie nights. The kitchen is the kind cooks appreciate: solid cookware, every tool you'd reach for, and barstool seating for casual conversation while dinner comes together. Just past the living room, a dining table for eight is ready for long family meals or a late round of board games.
Downstairs feels like its own retreat. A second living room with a sofa and TV opens to the backyard and has a small desk for catching up on work, and it makes a natural spot for kids' shows while the adults linger upstairs. The primary suite is just off this room, with a king bed and an ensuite bath with a freestanding soaking tub and separate shower that guests often describe as spa-like. On the main level, a second king bedroom and a bedroom with two twin beds share a full bath, so the layout works well for two couples, a family with kids, or a small group of friends.
The location makes it easy to leave the car in the driveway. Silver Lake Meadow and the reservoir loop are about a four-minute walk, Whole Foods is around five minutes on foot, and coffee shops, a bakery, and a smash burger stand are clustered right around the corner on Glendale Boulevard. Atwater Village and Frogtown are a quick drive away, with some of the Eastside's best independent shops and restaurants plus the LA River bike path. Dodger Stadium is about ten minutes by car, and Griffith Observatory, Hollywood, and Downtown LA are all within easy reach.
Come for a family visit, a ballgame weekend, or a longer stay in the city, and plan on ending most nights in the garden.
