The hostel is run very effeciently with awesome and very friendly staff. Very clean and very close to a lot of attraction sites.

The Elephant is one of the best hostels I've stayed at — full stop. But I need to flag something about booking through Agoda, because it nearly derailed the trip before it even started. When I arrived, my reservation hadn't come through correctly and I'd been put in a completely different room to the one I'd booked. That's an Agoda issue, not the hostel's — but definitely worth knowing if you're eyeing a 6-bed dorm. Book direct or use another platform and save yourself the stress. To their enormous credit, the staff went above and beyond to put it right — this wasn't the first time they'd had to deal with Agoda's errors. That alone tells you everything about the place. Warm, genuinely lovely people who are always up for a chat and actually interested in what you have to say. There's no guest kitchen, but don't let that put you off. The staff have access to utensils, hot water, and an oven — just ask and they'll sort you out. There's also a small shared fridge if you need to store a few bits. I'm fiercely independent and found it difficult to ask for assistance— they insisted it was exactly what they're there for. The linen, bathrooms, and overall cleanliness are all immaculate. No corners cut anywhere. And the location is ideal — I didn't touch public transport once (the free water taxi to Amsterdam Noord barely counts). Everything worth seeing is a relaxed stroll away, and there's a great spread of bars, eateries, and both an Albert Heijn and a Jumbo nearby for easy snacks or ready meals — the staff will even heat those up for you too. I'll absolutely be back. Just not via Agoda.
