Vintage Cairo Penthouse- Bayt Yakan, Historic Cairo

Fantastic place to stay in the middle of Cairo Dowtown. It is an oasis in the middle of the chaotic streets. The building is beautiful, the courtyard is very cosy. Highly recommended.

Breakfast is ok, the ladies who make it are absolutely sweet.

I would suggest to do something to keep tha cats away permanently, as the property smells with cat pee. Internet connectio, electricity security and room heating could be improved, too.

It is a gem in the city of Cairo. Beautifully renovated and thoughtfully conserved. It is like living with the culture of 19th century old Cairo. Lovely lovely. The staff so curious and the neighbourhood so charming. We enjoyed our visit.

There is nothing not to like about the place.

Location in the heart of the medieval city is spectacular for history but this is an intense neighborhood of narrow streets with rapid moto/tuktuk and people flow. Be ready. It helps to know at least a little Arabic to get around. Those with interest in architecture, urban preservation/restoration and an experience of staying in the historic heart, near the original walls, of the city will love Bayt Yakan. The complex is fascinating, literary, clean and surprisingly quiet for a city renowned for its noise. It is a cultural center first, and a guest house--not a hotel--only secondarily. I stayed in the upper suite/apartment and it is spacious, charming, cool, and appointed with antiques. Comfy beds, abundant breakfast, everyone helpful and kind.
