I’m an English-speaking American who got stranded in Ermidas-Sado, a village of about 2000 people, after the last train left. Luckily I found Casa Santa Maria and was able to rent this apartment; otherwise, I would have had to spend the night on a bench at the train station. For me this was a difficult situation due to not speaking any Portuguese but in spite of that the booking went smoothly. The proprietor was very responsive to my last-minute booking and sent someone in a car to pick me up from the train station. The apartment was clean, safe and comfortable with WiFi and lots of other amenities for a longer-term stay (five beds, kitchen, washing machine, dining area).
No basic food supplies in the kitchen (tea, coffee, snacks).

Keep in mind: With 5 people, 1 bed is placed in the kitchen (and on the way to the toilet), which makes it difficult for the person sleeping there to not get woken up.
