We recently stayed at this property for a big family holiday, and while we had a lovely time together in Fiji, the accommodation itself had quite a few issues that future guests should be aware of. To start, our pick up was delayed by about an hour despite being told it would only be five minutes, and when we arrived at the house at 4pm it was still being cleaned due to late departing guests. We requested and received a late checkout to compensate, and the owners attempted to charge a 4% credit card fee, which we negotiated down to 3%. On first impression, the house is spacious, beautifully laid out and in a quiet, peaceful area—perfect for a large family gathering. The housekeeping team were lovely, regularly checking in and helping with anything we needed. A few towels were missing on our first night, but this was quickly resolved. However, as the week went on, we discovered several issues. Many of the external doors didn’t lock properly, including the pool house granny flat door. With young children, an unfenced pool and open access to the canal, this felt like a significant safety concern. The internal doors also often jammed, leaving us stuck inside or outside rooms until we managed to force the handles open. The pool wasn’t clean when we arrived and continued to deteriorate throughout the week, becoming green and cloudy. Although the pool maintenance person did visit, the water did not improve, and he also entered the yard without announcing himself. Pool tiles were missing or broke off during our stay, which made the area unsafe for kids.

We also experienced pest issues, with a rat inside the house on the first night and another sighted later in the week. The owner’s son brought us rat traps, but there was no follow up or resolution beyond that. This was disappointing and not something you expect to deal with on holiday. Several maintenance issues added to the overall inconvenience: • Some basins and the kitchen sink had no hot water, meaning we had to boil water for washing up. • An upstairs bath also had no hot water. • The projector TV had no instructions and required the owners’ assistance to operate. • The Wi Fi modem had to be replaced as the original connection was extremely unreliable, the replacement was not much better. • In one bedroom, the fridge couldn’t reach the power outlet, some cupboards were broken, and several floor tiles upstairs were loose. There were also small, easily fixable things that would have made a big difference—no can opener, grater, peelers or storage containers in the kitchen; broken clothes pegs; several non working fans; and no lighting over the BBQ. The outdoor fans even appeared to have a wasp nest inside one of them. We took photos of many of these issues, as they are things that could be resolved with a bit of attention and maintenance, especially considering the price of the accommodation. In saying all that, we still had a wonderful holiday in Fiji and enjoyed our time as a family.
