A lot of steps

This home is in a fantastic location right in the heart of Old San Juan. It's easy to get to lots of restaurants, shopping, and local sightseeing. The building itself is charming and has a lot of potential. I love the historic quality of these kinds of buildings and was delighted to find this apartment available for our stay. The AC was cool, the water was nice and hot, and the washer/dryer was a great convenience! The layout of the rooms was unique and gave us some privacy. The wifi was strong, the view from the balcony was beautiful, and the overall ambiance of the building is wonderful.

The gate at the front was difficult to manage. Sometimes, the gate was locked and the keys we had did not unlock it. We were able to get in the gate by just reaching through the gate and opening it from the inside. While the beds were made nicely and had what appeared to be clean sheets, blankets, and bath towels on them, the rest of the apartment was not very clean. The floors, counter tops, windows, tables, etc. were dirty (not just dusty). The apartment is so unique and has so much potential, but the cleanliness level was not up to our expectations. We asked to check in a little early and were told the cleaners were currently cleaning and they would let us know when it was ready. We never heard back (which was totally fine), so we checked in at the normal time (probably 3 hours later), so I know they were there working but it was just not what we would consider clean. We have stayed in many old homes, so this is not related to the age of the building; it's directly related to overall cleanliness.

The location was amazing and we liked being able to sleep several people (two adults traveling with 3 kids).

There was a leak in the ceiling there was not a property manager with a key so we needed to return to the apartment to let the repair person in. One of the toilets was not working on our first night. We were told we would be refunded part of the amount of our stay but I have not seen anything. Also there were other loud groups staying in the building and were up drinking and making lots of noise all night.
