About this cottage rental
Welcome to Sunset Bay Cottage, a year round waterfront bungalow with spectacular panoramic views of Georgian Bay. Full kitchen , living room with a cozy gas fireplace & large deck off the dining room.
Guests can enjoy a private waterfront area with direct access to 19km paved Tay Shore Trail to Bike, Walk, Run, Jog, Rollerblade from Coldwater to Midland.
Tons of amenities nearby for all ages. Popular bay for fishing & water sports. Just 1.5 hr drive from GTA.
The space
We invite you to enjoy our peaceful & sun-filled open-concept bungalow boasting floor to ceiling windows with panoramic views of Georgian Bay!
Featuring 2 bedrooms (1 Queen bed and 2 double beds (bunk-style), a fully-equipped kitchen, living room with natural gas fireplace and a dining room.
Walk out to an over-sized 2-tier deck with a private backyard bordered with emerald cedars and chiminea/ fire pit to roast your s’mores.
Remember to bring your fishing rods…Sturgeon Bay is well-known for great fishing (& ice-fishing) too. You can buy bait at the Pine Country Store on Pine street on your way to the cottage or at Pier 69 Marina. There is also a public government dock for fishing as well. You can also rent a fishing boat from Pier 69 marina for the day!
Enjoy direct access to 19 km of non-motorized paved Tay Shore Trail where you can run, roller blade or bike ride etc.. to Coldwater or Midland and other charming towns to discover in between.
Waubaushene public beach is a short 3 minute walk along the trail where you will find a small sandy beach/ shallow swimming area with a long pier and small parkette to enjoy.
Conveniently located right off Hwy 400/ Hwy 12 West exit, 1 hr from Vaughan, 1.5 hrs from Toronto, 30mins north of Barrie, 20 mins to Orillia (Casino Rama), 15 mins to downtown Midland.
If you are looking to include some pampering we suggest to visit: Vetta Nordic Spa is 25 min drive south, or Rawley's & Christie Mills Spa is a 10 min drive north.
In the winter months, you can country ski/ snow shoe along the 19 km Tay Shore Trail!Mount St. Louis Ski Resort is just a 12 minute drive away. Ice hut fishing is popular on the Bay - at your own risk - check that lake is frozen solid. Snow mobile trails and outdoor skating is available in the village and neighbouring towns.
If you have a watercraft such as a boat or Sea Doo, you can launch it at local marinas (2 min drive away) for an in & out fee. You can inquire in advance for weekend slip fees.
Our cottage is on municipal water, which makes the water safe for drinking and cooking.
During the early Spring, Fall, Winter months a natural gas fireplace is turned on and controlled by a thermostat which warms up the entire cottage & offers a cozy ambiance! Electric baseboards are in each of the bedrooms and in the bathroom as well.
A new propane BBQ is available, including cleaning/ cooking utensils.(not an available in winter).
High Speed Internet is included. A brand new 40" Roku Smart TV is provided to log on to your personal Netflix/ streaming accounts. There is also a collection of DVD's and VHS movies to enjoy on a 32" flat screen tv in the bedroom with bunks.
We also offer playing cards and a variety of board games for your enjoyment!
All beds and pillows are covered in waterproof covers. Bed linens, bath, hand, kitchen towels are provided. Please just bring your own beach towels!
Guest access:
You have access to the entire cottage, deck, front yard/patio and backyard, private lower waterfront area including the concrete dock.
Some Cottage Rules to Note:
- Min 25 yrs & older to book. Families with children of all ages welcome.
-- Strict No Pets (dog/ cat etc…) Allowed Policy due to severe allergies. If this house rule is violated a $500 penalty charge will be charged. Thank you for your understanding.
- No smoking of any kind inside the property, please discard cigarette butts safely and do not leave butts on the property.
-Please respect the noise by-law.
-No parties, bachelor/ bachelorette parties please.
-Please respect our neighbours and stay within the property limits. Guest(s) must avoid trespassing onto adjacent properties at all times.
- Only the # of guests booked are allowed on the property. We can comfortably accommodate a maximum of 6 guests. Additional charge of guests more than 4 will be applied at $50 per person per night. This charge will be requested after booking. Should unregistered guests stay day or overnight, $100 will be charged per night accordingly and can be asked to leave at the discretion of the owners.
- Please park on the granular area only, not on the grass.
- We welcome all families, but please be advised that there are no child safety devices installed, such as baby gates and child locks.
- Water Safety: Water activities, including swimming, paddle boating, kayaking etc... are inherently dangerous. Two (2) Adult Life jackets are provided and recommended to wear while on the paddle boat or kayaks. You are responsible to bring life jackets that properly fit your children. You indemnify the owners and their agents for any and all activities related to water.
Camp Fires permitted only in the backyard chiminea. Please bring your own fire wood (can be purchased at the Esso station or country pine store). Please follow Tay fire rating guide and only have a fire when permitted.
The property has stairs from the deck to the backyard including stairs to the waterfront. The grounds are naturally uneven due to exposed roots, including boulders to protect the shoreline against coastal waves/ erosion. Precautions must be taken by all guests as to avoid and prevent slip and fall.
What we include:
Pillows, bed linens, comforters, blankets, hand, bath towels are provided. ***Please bring your own beach towels.
Kitchen is equipped with assorted glasses, pots, pans, plates, bowls, bakeware, colander, cutting boards, grater, utensils, Keurig Single Cup Coffee maker, 12-cup coffee maker, toaster, kettle, mini salad spinner, mini rice-cooker, tea pot, flashlight.

Carla’s cottage was a great option for a last-minute New Year’s Eve reset! It’s a cozy spot and was just right for our family of three, the gas stove keeping us toasty even when the temperature dipped to -20 our first night! We enjoyed playing in the endless snow in the yard, keeping an eye on the ice fishing huts and even popping out for lunch in Midland when the squalls finally let up! Carla made sure the heat was on and the driveway plowed for our arrival and communication was quick and easy! A note that (as we seem to be the first winter review) this winter wonderland is delightful, but getting there requires winter tires and lots of washer fluid!

Carla was very helpful throughout our staying at beautiful cottage which had the most beautiful sunset view on the lake. The cottage was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed including well equipped kitchen. Carla was incredibly responsive and helpful providing us with great local recommendations,,Would love to go back,, Thank you

This place is so lovely, and so relaxing and so beautiful that you can't decide what/which to love the most. It is a competing place of beautiful settings. When you get into the property there is a brand new BBQ waiting for you, then you go inside and you see a welcoming and cozy house, and then you walk a bit further and there is a dining table with a glass window with view of the lake, then there is patio with dining and coffee chairs again with a view of the lake , then you leave the patio and into the backyard there is s'more pit waiting for you, then you move further and you go out the backyard into the 19km Tay trail, and then you go downstairs to the lake and you have a sunset so beautiful and peaceful that starts your camera in automatic mode. It is like jumping on a hopscotch of all these beautiful things. My family and I had a lovely time to this cottage.

The cottage was cozy and had all the essentials in a tranquil waterfront setting just steps to the rail trail. Carla was a great hostess -- friendly and quick to respond. The welcome basket was a nice touch. We enjoyed using the kayaks and paddleboat. It all made for a relaxing weekend family getaway.
