Location was excellent but noisy

I had booked a "cave" room and was only told when I arrived that it was not available due to an inspection. The location is right in the middle of things and noisy so I only stayed 1 night instead of 4.

I loved my stay here and would not hesitate to come again! The neighborhood, "Staircase 18", is fantastic! I am a world traveler (have visited over 35 countries), and I personally found this neighborhood to be one of my favorite stays ever! This hotel was located PERFECTLY right in the middle of the ancient city. Now, it is a rather unique stay due to the historical landscape of "Staircase 18". It is NOT easy to bring large suitcases, although it is possible. If you have a good attitude and are prepared to tackle the mountainside staircases, then there should not be a problem. The town crowds were large but not completely overwhelming; I am not sure if I would enjoy my experience the same during summer/spring vacation periods since this area was already pretty "happening" during the winter months of December. The hotel staff met us at the top of the stairs and assisted with our (very) large suitcase down the escalators and staircases to the room. (We had to take our own luggage back up upon departure). The hotel staff was kind and used Google Translate to assist us. When they noticed we did not eat much of our breakfast on the first day, they were kind and contacted us regarding options for a different breakfast. They also recommended an excellent local Sichuan hotpot which was great (we did order half spicy and half non-spicy which was a good choice for us). The room was very fun and special. During the winter, there were heating pads under the mattress which made for a very cozy and comfortable sleep. I really enjoyed my stay!!

The pictures were a little outdated it seemed. The floor particularly had some wear and tear, but this did not detract from our experience. If you are hoping for privacy, this might not be the best option as the toilet and shower doors are wooden with open space above and below. They are rather like saloon doors. This was fine with me; I was just a little surprised at first. Be aware of the location: you are right in the middle of a mountain and stairs are required to get here.

Great location on pedestrian street of Shibati,rooms with unique design.

Poor breakfast in a bag (one sandwich,one egg and a box of soya milk).
