Stay in the Cabot Room at The Glengarry Inn — a private ground-floor apartment in a beautifully restored 1880s heritage property in Northern Cape Breton, just 7 minutes from the Cabot Trail in Sugar Loaf.
THE APARTMENT
The Cabot Room is a self-contained ground-floor unit on the northeast side of the inn, with its own private entrance and electronic lock. No shared corridors, no shared entrance with other guests — just your door, your code, your apartment.
Inside you'll find:
— Queen bed with quality linens
— Comfortable sitting area
— Full kitchenette: Keurig coffee maker, fridge, air fryer, two induction hot plates, and everything you need to cook properly
— Private en-suite bathroom with both a shower and a soaking bathtub
— Air conditioning for warm summer nights
— Smart TV and fast WiFi throughout
— Hair dryer, fresh towels, and quality linens
— Mountain views across Sugar Loaf and Sam's Mountain range
— Free parking right outside your entrance
— Accessibility: fixed grab bars fitted at the toilet
The kitchenette is genuinely well-equipped. We do not serve meals at the inn — but with a setup like this, you may not need us to.
THE INN
The Glengarry was built in 1880 and has been a place for people to stay and gather ever since — a lodge, a general store, a community meeting place. The original 19th-century general store on the ground floor is still largely intact and now serves as a small on-site museum, which we love showing guests around.
THE LOCATION
You're in Dingwall, a small fishing village on the north shore of Cape Breton. North Harbour Beach on Aspy Bay is at the end of our driveway. Sugar Loaf Mountain is what you see from your window each morning.
The Cabot Trail — one of the world's great scenic drives — begins 7 minutes away.

This is an old inn being renovated by the owner. The room we had was spectacular. Beautifully decorated and with all the conveniences of home. Jim and Cathy were wonderful. It was a pleasure to stay with them. I can’t wait to see the finished project.

Jim and Cathy are fabulous hosts! They took excellent care of us while we stayed in their upscale, private apartment in their historic home. They provided everything we needed for two wonderful kayak adventures. The property is gorgeous and has beautiful waterfront on Apy Bay. We kayaked over to a perfect beach and we had it all to ourselves! They are close to a whale watching harbor and a magnificent drive over to Meat Cove.
