The North Peak Nakafurano

We were a friends and family group of 15 (4 families) on a ski trip to Furano in January 2026 (arrived New Year's Eve). There's very few places in Japan that can cater for a group this size with a spacious living and dining area, enough beds, bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone, and a decent sized kitchen. There were a few quirks we didn't expect (a dedicated smoking room? We turned it into our ski storage locker! Dig your car out and clear a path to the road after heavy snowfall? Check!) but it made for great memories for everyone. All in all, this place was amazing for a self catering ski lodge with everything you would need for a great ski holiday. Some pro tips: Go to the Northern Daimonji Wildfire Festa at Hinode Park in Kamifurano to see in the new year, with fireworks and a massive "大" (big) character burned in fire on the snowy hillside. It's still mostly a local spectacle. North Peak is only a 5 minutes drive to Super Centre Bestom Nakafurano (which is a big well stocked supermarket) and Furano La Terre Spa & Hotel Resort (which has a great onsen that you can pay to use as a non-hotel guest).

The rooms could do with some coat hooks given it is catering to an outdoor activity crowd (for jackets etc.). The baths needs to be filled daily as there is no heater to keep the water hot. The larger bath takes a while to fill up. Refer pro tip and go to the big onsen down the road!
