Quay Cottage in Sandwich, UK

This is a really lovely cottage that couldn't be more central to Sandwich. It's immensely comfy, with super soft beds and sofas, a lovely outside space, big bathroom and good storage space in bedrooms and kitchen. There are some very nice decorative touches like the old toilet, the claw bathtub and swan tap in the kitchen, as well as a lovely fire in the living room which kept us all toasty. We also used their travel cot which was in good condition and very helpful. It was very easy to check in and out. It's a really beautiful cottage, in a great location, and overall we really enjoyed our stay.

When we arrived there was a problem with the electricity being off which took 90 minutes to resolve, with the wonderful cleaner and caretaker sorting. This was understandable but throughout that time we couldn't get through to the property owner through Booking.com on the phone, and weren't getting responses to messages. We weren't sure if we were even going to be able to stay and it just felt quite stressful. We also received our checkout email a day early which made me think we might have to leave so I messaged to check, and again the response was quite slow. I think, especially given the situation with the electricity which I understand they were aware of, the comms could have been better, really. There are a few small improvements needed that would make such a difference here. The hot water tap in the bathroom doesn't really work, and the downstairs tap has a leak as well. Also, the second bedroom is too small for the bed which should probably be a single, or at least a double without a foot-board so you can get out at the bottom, as currently it's very hard to get in and out with the radiator blocking the far side.

It is a beautiful setting. A wonderful old world house and location. I spent my childhood in Sandwich and always wondered what the inside of this cottage was like, now I know. Recommend this to anyone.

Not a problem for me but it is a tight squeeze getting into the bed in the smaller bedroom. But that's what you would expect for this magic cottage.
