The hotel was fine. I booked the cheapest place that came up, got the ultimate 8888 room. Had a nice balcony. Otherwise a pretty standard "get what you pay for" room. Only downside is that across the other side of the river in Laos , someone plays very loud music, late into the night.

Pros: - Pretty much all important tourist sites are located within a walking distance (that is, a 5-min radius), as well as restaurants and a 711. - There's a large balcony/open-air rest space attached to the room facing the river, which is beautiful (until the karaoke party begins on the Lao side of the river). - The price is reasonable. Cons: - The reception is almost always unattended. When it is not, the receptionist is extremely inattentive and even rude. Whatever question I asked him, he would abruptly say, "I don't know", in Thai, and bury his head back into his phone. I have stayed at nearly a hundred different hotels/hostels/resorts/Airbnb's all across Thailand but this kind of unpleasant interaction with the staff is something rather rare. They seriously need to hire someone more knowledgeable and more hospitable to represent the property. - Apparently there's a huge party town on the Lao side and it's very, very loud. You can hear people singing karaoke until over midnight (judging from the songs, mostly Shan/Myanmar people). To be fair, that's not the property's fault because it's something happening behind the border and they can't do much about it. Conclusion: If you really need to stay IN the Golden Triangle area for a night, and if you don't need any assistance from the staff, this may be an alright choice. The "superior" river view becomes useless after 5 pm because of all that noise from across the river.
